I just finished reading this--it took me awhile, stupid RL! It has everything I love about Torchwood, and also Doctor Who: timey-wimey shenanigans, action, comedy, angst, more action, even darker comedy, and an awesome closing scene between John Hart and the Face of Boe, WTF?! I loved that--it made me LOL for srs.
Once I began reading this in earnest this weekend, it was hard to stop, like the best stories are.
But it was this passage that made me go "oh!" and have to pause for a minute:
He no longer worried about losing Ianto. He'd never say that out loud because he didn't want to fight, and he didn't want to watch the shutters come down over a despairing look. That wasn't what he'd meant, he'd have to say, and he'd explain that having watched Ianto die twice, part of him would
( ... )
Aw, thank you! The funny thing for me is that, as I was writing, I started noticing that while Jack was worried, he wasn't as worried as I thought he'd be. Then he said why, and I was like, "Oh. Okay, then." (And this will become an issue in the Space Pirates series. How's that for a preview?)
I love love love getting to write Alice and Jenny together, and I'm so glad you liked their relationship here. :D And John Hart is incredibly fun to write, especially when he's annoying the oher characters.
Thanks so much for the ramble and for sticking with the story! You made my night.
Yay, there's gonna be more!! You made MY night with that tease.
And it is very true that sometimes you just have to wait for the characters to tell you where the story is going because it won't really work the other way around. Especially if that character is Jack Harkness.
I don't normally comment on fics (evil lurker here), but I stumbled across this a few days ago and wanted to tell you that it's really special. I love this story. Thanks so much for writing it!
The fact that you can comprehend time travel well enough to write this good a narrative and have it make sense is amazing in itself. Just out of curiosity, how long did this take to plan/write? because my head hurts.
I'm sick, and reading this just after having finished COE hardly helps the heartbreak, but knowing perfect Ianto fic exists makes everything better. Even if it's bitter-sweet.
ugh, I'm afraid I'm not making sense. Blame the lack of sleep and the head cold :]
I posted "Intersecting Geodesics" in October. I started playing with the ideas for this in December. It was finished in June. So, a while? I'm still working in this universe. The first "J/I space pirates" went live in September, and I've got another one that I'm actively working on that should be out in February, and meanwhile, Alice and Jenny stories just pop out at random times. :)
Thanks for dropping by! I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you again! There's a followup, if you haven't seen it, called "From the Cold Coast of Norway ... " that follows Jack and Ianto in their new career. :)
