This story really hit me hard. For them to be back and for no one to know it - that's almost worse than being dead. I think Richard reacted the way most people would. Maybe he's not a wonderful person, but there is something creepy about the way Ianto and Steve interact.
Oh thank God - there's hope in that last line. Poor Ianto, he's trying so very hard.
I can't stand peppers, especially on my pizza. Yes, I have and will pick the damn things out of my food any time they accidentally show up, and yes I'm an adult. :P
Ah, you do kid!fic so well. There's so much schmaltzy kid!fic out there, but you make yours with 100% real kids!
And I'm loving dear Ianto, here. We get the impression from CoE that Ianto isn't that great with kids. But he's staying with Steven because a) he wants to do the right thing, b) he needs purpose in his new quasi-life, and perhaps most importantly c) it's the only way he can still be in some kind of relationship with Jack. It's so lovely and complicated, and Ianto (as always) is in it so hopelessly over his head.
And then he starts to get involved with someone new, and the whole "gay men are pedophiles" boogeyman has to go and ruin everything. Poor, poor Ianto. He looks so pretty when he suffers.
I love writing kid!fic because I've got kids and it's fascinating trying to superimpose that over the superhuman lives of characters, not to see them changing diapers, but to see them dealing with smaller people who need to be fed regular meals and have bedtimes AND ALSO Mum(s) and Dad(s) have to go save the world.
Hee! I love your reasons list, because YES. He's so tangled up, and also just isn't good at this.
I am fond of the moment where Richard honestly considers the possibility, because going to the police is the only completely non-selfish thing he does. He knows the rumors will fly right back against him because of that boogeyman, and he is completely absorbed with what people think about him, but helping Steven is more important.
Yes, kudos to Richard. And even though Ianto isn't a pedophile, Richard is totally right that there's something fishy going on. THANK GOD there are people like that in real life who are willing to stick their necks out and report the fishy stuff.
