I crept into the hospital and took very slow steps, almost lurking in the halls, as I tried to find the room I was told to go to. My heart was beating so fast that it seemed to become this steady hum in my chest. And there it was, the door. I opened it slowly, careful in case I'd disturb anyone behind it
( ... )
I could feel my hand tremble as I reached for the handle of the door of the room Tara had been put in. All I could gather about what had happened was that David, the head of the council had been hit by a car and that something had also happened to Tara, though no one was clear on what it was. All anyone knew was that she was in as bad or maybe worse condition as David was.
I took a deep breath, slowly releasing it as I eased the door open, steadying myself for what I might find on the other side of the door as I took a step inside the room.
"Tara..." I said in a soft voice, almost a whisper when I saw her laying on the bed. It wasn't until after I took a couple steps closer that I realized there was a third person in the room.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone else was in here." I said keeping my voice soft as I turned to the woman by the other bed.
A young lady had walked into the room and looked at Tara on the bed. "I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone else was in here." She had realized she wasn't the only person in the room. I stood up slowly and took a deep breath, trying to collect myself.
"No it's fine..." I tried to think of the girls name, I recognized her from the council, but my mind was drawing a blank.
"Yeah." I answered. "Has there been any change for either of them?" I thought it only polite and I was a bit concerned for David, even though I barely knew him. He was a good friend of Tara's and that was good enough for me.
"I'm Dawn Summers." Introducing myself to the woman. The way she looked at me gave me the impression that she knew me, but at the moment couldn't put a name with the face.
