The Friday Five on a Monday

1. Are you happy with your current line of work? What do you like/don't like about it?

Ha. Hahaha. I mean, that is a hell of a question. My line of work is the main subject of my locked entries, which are basically a long paean of the many and varied feelings I have about it. The architecture of academia is hugely problematic. I have never been so ( Read more... )

One of my earliest life-goals was "wealthy philanthropist". There was a TV show when I was a child called "The Millionaire" where a mysterious man went around gifting a million dollars to people and we watched the (fictional) aftermath. I thought surprising people with money was the coolest thing ever. Still do. :)

One of my favourite novels is "Bellwether" by Connie Willis, which has basically the same premise except it's an award for scientific research. :)

They often seem to go hand in hand. I guess there's just something naturally compelling about horses!

I have never been so taxed, drained, and overwhelmed by any other job. At the same time, I have never been so utterly absorbed and satisfied by my work in my life.
Same.

There is a lot of unexpected squidginess in life!

Ha, yes. Yesterday morning the cats brought me a worm. Well. They each brought me half of the worm. They were so proud. 🤦🏽

I’m not sure how pleased six-year-old me would be if they could see me now.

I know that feeling XD

Here are my answers:

1) I am happy with my current line of work, it's not what I envisioned for my life but it's good and honest work. What I don't like about it is the long hours X_X;

2) I think so, for 5 years, and maybe in 10 years, maybe something new will pop up.

3) I didn't, really, but I do put my secretarial skills to good use.

4) I wanted to be either an astronaut or a writer, and I'm definitely a writer.

5) I would have gone straight to writing as a full-time job.

I think I'd have to do a lot of explaining to six year old me, and I'm not sure she'd have the patience to appreciate it!

I'm glad that you write. Hopefully that helps mitigate against the long hours. <3
