There was a set of ridiculous sentence prompts on the meetcuteproject.tumblr.com (ETA reblogged from toxixpumpkin.tumblr.com), and I tried to cram as many in as possible without word-soup.

Wild, imagination-teasing fun, even though it's so short. L in a dress, nice sci fi setting, technomancers. (My first thought was that Light is - secretly of course - their member/leader, and summons Ryuk at some point... what? I did say imagination-teasing!)
Well, the stuff is pretty fun, even though I prefer stories closer to canon.

Nah - the cultists decide that Light's the reincarnation of the cult's founder. Much more fun, with the current head wanting this threat to his authority gone, L suspecting that Light is connected to the cult (you know - intentionally), cultists randomly worshipping Light, and Light stuck in the middle of this mess!
