NaNoWriMo 2014...

I'm not new to Nano, but I've never been able to win before.

Is there anyone on livejournal here who'll be competing? I've only recently returned to Livejournal and I'd really like to connect with some other writers/Nano folk for writing and friendship.

Is there anyone out there? :)

That sounds great! I'll do that for sure - where abouts are you based? :)

-Raises hand- I've been doing it since 2007...I think? Wow, I don't even remember. I still haven't won for various reasons, but I keep coming back to it each year to try and win. I still have to work some more on figuring out my plot, but this year I'm back at school for the first time in two years so I'm going to have to deal with classes while also trying to write 50k. Luckily for me the only thing this professor does (I have him for both classes) is go a little too crazy on quizzes, which I do mostly well on, and the homework isn't really TOO bad. I'll have final projects to be dealing with in the last few weeks of November but I THINK I should be able to handle it, assuming I get far enough into November that I'm still writing at that point. I usually end up giving up for one reason or another. Two years ago when I was taking classes it was because my classes were hard and my grades were dropping so I just lost my enthusiasm to keep trying to write.

Yeah this will only be my third year, but I failed the last couple - I'd like to say mostly down to circumstances but there are people out there who manage to win when they have all manner of things going on. I got half way through once and then lost my job, so that was a bit...

This is the year, though! I just have to be prepared for it!

I have prepped a novel, and I'm hoping it will work well, but the trouble I find with planning is that I now feel like I've already written it, so it's harder to engage. I'm sure I'll manage though :)

Yeah, exactly. I always say "this is my year, I'm going to do it," and then something happens where it doesn't happen. I haven't actually written anything CLOSE to a novel since I was between the ages of eleven and thirteen, and that was a 400 page* piece of crap Star Wars story ( ... )

Oh my gosh, I am exactly like that, that is pretty much my problem.

I think part of my problem is that I tend to over think...I've gotten to the point where I sit down and start thinking of things and then I go "no, that's too cliche, I can't do that" sometimes, and it makes me not want to use whatever it is. I miss the times when I was younger and I would just write and not over think things. The stories weren't exactly the best, but it was a lot easier then because I didn't think about whether or not things made sense, I just wrote.
SAME, SO MUCH, OMG ( ... )

This is my first year doing more than simply thinking about nanowrimo. I have a loose outline for my story right now and plan to tighten it before November.

I wish you luck! I have quite a stringent plan, which I'm actually now starting to regret as it doesn't feel like it has much flexibility... but I guess I'll just have to see where my characters take me :)

I'm debating it! I tried a few times years ago, but never got very far. I have a hard time writing because I'm overly critical, and the whole idea of nanowrimo is getting past that and indiscriminately producing.
