Conan Edogawa ♉ Detective Conan
An amazingly competent and capable young boy, greatly contrasting Naoshi's childish enthusiasm, but nevertheless the little man's first friend made on the island. They worked together on the school and shared a love of soccer, and surprisingly Conan looked out for Naoshi more often than the reverse. Despite being so much younger, Naoshi looked at him as an inspiration, even when flustered by Conan and Homare teaming up to motherhen him and his karakasa. Though he is very glad the boy has gone home, he will always miss him terribly.
Homare Kanakubo ♉ Starry☆Sky
The captain of the archery club Naoshi sponsored back at Seigetsu Academy and the only student also sucked into the Devil's Sea. Naoshi wants nothing more than for Kanakubo to be safe, but with Kanakubo being equally protective of his teacher, the two continually throw themselves in harm's way on each other's behalf and are often equally in need of hospitalization afterwards. This bullheaded, wonderful boy is Naoshi's strongest motivation to pull himself together, contribute to the island community, and be worthy of being called "Sensei" again. After all they've been through, he's more than just a student -- Naoshi loves him like family.
Stephanie Brown ♉ DC Comics
Naoshi met Stephanie as a friend of Conan's, attending her 18th birthday party at the boy's invitation. Unbeknownst to him at first, she was also the superhero with whom he later had a brief online conference. Like he, karakasa have an affection for her, which ended up leading to him saving her life when she fell off the cliffs on the far side of the island and the umbrella-monsters fetched him for help. He knows her secret now and is sworn to keep it, even if he doesn't quite understand what secret identities are all about. Their friendship often involves good-natured mockery on her part.
Casual Friendships
Alanna | The Song of the Lioness
A true Lioness that put our Leo to shame, Alanna played a pivotal role in helping Homare save his Sensei's life when the jinmenju trees caught the little teacher. Though kind in her rough way, her bravery and no-nonsense demeanor are another inspiration for Naoshi to push himself and become far more capable at handling whatever this island will throw at him in the future. He'll never be able to compare to her, but her memory remains an inspiration.
Anders | Dragon Age 2
A mage and healer who works in the hospital, and who provides a steady presence that Naoshi likes having around... not to mention it's nice to have someone one can speak adult-to-adult with, without having to worry quite as much about keeping up a "competent adult front", as Naoshi tends to do by having so many younger friends on the island.
Hadesu Itsuhito ♐ Hokenshitsu no Shinigami
The doctor previously in charge of the island's hospital, whom Naoshi was all too familiar with. As it turned out, the fellow was extremely kind and apparently starved for company, which Naoshi was all too glad to give and receive. Naoshi wishes he could have gotten to know Hadesu-sensei better.
Ichigo Kurosaki ♋ Bleach
A young man and competent warrior, the island's other Japanese redhead. They knew each other only in passing for a long time, but found they got along rather well once they began to speak directly. Sometimes they team up in welcoming newcomers to the island, making them the unofficial "Welcoming Committee".
Lee Scoresby & Hester | His Dark Materials
A gregarious older gentleman (and his hare-personified soul) that looks after the ranch and livestock. Naoshi sees him nearly every morning when he delivers foodstuffs to the cafeteria, and stays a while for breakfast, coffee, and a chat.
Lirael | Abhorsen
A kind albeit very shy young lady, but one with great courage when it comes to facing down the island monsters. She has helped and protected him with sword and magic alike, so he regards her fondly and trusts her very much, though they are complete opposites in personality and have little in common outside of the kitten she adopted from him when he found an entire litter abandoned. She is currently in charge of the hospital.
Nepeta Leijon ♌ Homestuck
Finally, a troll Naoshi enjoys being around! She's lots of fun to visit, and is the "furrsome momma cat" for the majority of an abandoned litter that Naoshi re-homed. Of course, it's only appropriate that he get along with her, considering she's the Leo of the trolls.
Rapunzel | Tangled
Sweet and charming, one of the few other people on the island that does her best to keep as bright an outlook and as cheerful a demeanor as Naoshi does. They get along very well and share an interest in the stars.
Thomas MacLaine | Deadly Premonition
A somewhat socially awkward man, but one Naoshi has taken a liking to. He assists Naoshi in the hospital cafeteria, both in actual cooking and keeping their supplies organized.
Acquaintances
Adam Milligan ♎ Supernatural
A med student who assists in the hospital, with a penchant for snark. Naoshi has been thoroughly embarrassed by the younger man more than once and frequently frustrated by his teasing (he once even smashed a rice ball in Adam's face in retaliation). Lately, however, they have been attempting to make peace, and might even be able to get along well in time.
Francis Bonnefoy ♋ Hetalia
A recruit to Naoshi's cafeteria dayshift who claims to be the personification of the actual country of France. Regardless of what Naoshi thinks of this strange declaration, the man is an excellent cook and Naoshi is happy to share cafeteria duties with him.
Natsuhi Ushiromiya | Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Naoshi's short-term "landlady", whom he moved in with because she had space to spare and living alone is dangerous. Calm and digified, he viewed her more like a better than a peer, and helped her with her record-keeping of the island's food supplies. After she vanished, he inherited both her house and her duties. The last time he saw her, she was suffering hallucinations and ran him out of the house at naginata-point, but he'll still remember her fondly.
Riza Hawkeye | Fullmetal Alchemist
A competent military woman who does her best to try and keep things organized. She's a notable presense on the island and Naoshi admittedly looks up to her as a figure of authority, though they've had little close interaction.
Negative Relations
Coyote | Gunnerkrigg Court
A trickster-god who makes himself something of a nuisance around the island, of whose pranks Naoshi has been a victim more than once. He's not an inherently bad creature, but Naoshi would prefer for the entity to leave him alone nevertheless.
Gamzee Makara ♑ Homestuck
When Gamzee Makara went on a spree of violence, Naoshi was one of his victims, horribly wounded and hospitalized for weeks of recovery that would have been months without the magical intervention he received. The event traumatized Naoshi horribly and he has twice fallen into panic attacks when re-exposed to the troll in some fashion. Both times he had to be calmed by friends. The little man may put up a brave front once more... but he'll always harbor utter terror of Gamzee.
