Interesting read, somehow I think all the scoobies bar Willow are probably going to have similar reactions to Faith. Although I guess that depends on what they have been up to for the past few years
( ... )
I'm going to try a less idealized approach to the relationships in this fic. Don't know if I'll manage anything. I just don't think it's ever easy to forget the past, regardless of how things might have changed since. Neither is it a good idea to cling to old patterns, which is what Willow kind of does in this story in regards to Xander for example. The result is confusing for everyone and eventually the issues have to be faced. Hopefully in a productive way. Faith's attitude to Willow, calling her gormless, is mostly just reaction to Willow's bitchiness towards her. Mostly. By comparison, her attitude towards the old watchers, with who she should have a lot more conflict, is relatively cordial. This is because they don't have as much baggage to deal with. At least, it seems like they don't. But there's still a long way to go yet :)
Hilarious. Roger as the perpetually craggy 2IC, whipping everybody into shape, even the CO. Flashbacks to several old British comedies there. You can see the Old Hands have been together a long time, like the precursor to the Scoobie Gang (Gandalf's Squires, maybe?). Exasperated affection all around.
Sad that Faith is feeling totally out of her depth. SHE is now in charge and she didn't realise, until someone spelled it out for her, that that means she now has to do all of this stuff. I can see Roger gruffly taking her under his wing, like a perpetually irritated Alfred and teaching her how to do it all, complete with The LOOK of DOOM when she tries to goof off or something.
Oh Faith still has no idea exactly what her new job means. She's in for a few more shocks yet :)
As for Roger, I decided he'd be a good fit in this story because do the lessons he can teach her. Not through lectures or by peering over her shoulder all the time but by example. His back story is going to become very, very relevant as the story goes on. It should be quite fun.
I just picture her sitting in the swivel chair twirling it in circles. What a crazy world.
I find this interesting in my mind how this mirrors Angels first take with W&H. Almost like the NWC is trying a bit of insanity and hoping it's very definition does not come back and bite them in the ass.
I like Roger. I could see him trying to finish what his boy could not. Wonder if Faith will finally put pictures of her own in HER office. Maybe one of Wes?
I can't wait to see the kind of Slayers she chooses to surround herself with.
We'll progressively learn more about how the council came to be in its current state. They're definitely going to be a whole lot more careful how they do things now, for various reasons. I have this image in my head of how things started out, in the days immediately following the end of Sunnydale. I see them as having rebuilt the council as fast as they possibly could, held together by string and a prayer. The wheels were bound to come off eventually and this story sort of picks up at the point where that has already happened and they're now able to start applying some hard earned lessons and changing the way things are done for the better. Faith is going to be a big part of that :)
So interesting to see the things that can make Faith vulnerable. Give her a nest of vampires to dust and she's all over it, but the idea of being in charge and having a corner office is obviously completely disorientating and a little terrifying. I suspect that it will take a while for her to adjust.
Dear Roger, it's nice to see somethings don't change and while I'm sure he didn't mean to be deliberately patronising when he listed Faith making coffee amongst all the other things she might be doing, it really did make me want to hit him - happy days.
Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the gang react to Scoobies plc.
