Those are pretty cool but actually, having now looked into things a bit more, I'm currently leaning towards something a little more transparent :)

Interesting effect. Might not be quite so shiny after the dust bunnies start to accumulate inside it though! :-)

If you're after quiet there are a number of boxes that are designed for just that these days. That's what I specified ("as quiet as possible") and my new one is essentially noiseless. I have it sitting no more than 50cm from my head and can't hear a thing apart from when I'm working with a DVD.
