No, I'm not going to ask you to vote for a certain person, I'm just asking... pleading actually... for you to vote.
Here's why.
There is a genuinely frightening trend sweeping state to state in the US that's limiting voting access nationwide in the name of voter fraud prevention.
Innocuous sounding, abruptly inacted changes like suddenly requiring a

I've found documentation online where the state certainly enforced 3 minute limits in early voting. The state voting guidelines also stayed that if you required assistance during early voting, you had to bring a doctor's letter validating your need of help in order to receive it.
It's fucking madness.

I...what? It takes me more than 3 minutes to fill out my ballot (mostly because I care enough to make sure I get it right!) and I don't have any language/reading difficulties, physical disabilities, or conditions that make filling out the ballot difficult. The idea of someone only having 3 minutes when they have any number of reasons to need more time? I want to see the person who came up with this idea personally explain to these people why their vote is worth less than someone else's.
Just when I think it's not possible to be any angrier than I already am...

And also... EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID. I have average reading comprehension skills and this is my first language and yes, I read every word on the ballot and take forever.
Some documentation I read online said that ballot amendment descriptions would be handed to you in line if requested during early voting, but how many people show up to vote not knowing that? How many people wait in line not knowing about the time limit idiocy?
It's just bonkers as fuck.

We moved a few blocks just before the last presidential election, and we had to go back home and dig out voter registration cards, bills, and maybe a marriage liscence to get us both a ballot at a poling place we've voted at for 11 years. It's insane.

I used a Affidavit ballot and was only allowed to vote for POTUS and my State Senator (not any of the locals), but I did my civic duty and I will be counted!

But I sooo share your rage against The Stoopids, b/c they're just... ARGH.
Somehow, The Stoopids are a *teeny* bit easier to live with (overall) b/c I know that there are also the most awesomest people around, too -- like you!! (There. How's that for looking for the rainbow? [well, sorta ;-)])

It is heartening to know that even if people are capable of ignorant, awful things, they can be and do astonishingly wonderful things, too. :)
*hugs you*

It would be soooo easy to get so extremely paranoid and disheartened about how prevalent The Stoopids are these days, but at least I can combat that with how awesome others are. (Now if I could just think of a cleverish name for the non-Stoopids! LOL!!)
*HUGS* you too!!

I've read about states that opted to close early voting on this last Sunday. It sounds pretty straightforward until you find out that the churches in rural or poor urban areas of that state traditionally carpooled people (who might not have easy access to transportation otherwise) over for early voting after church services held on the last Sunday before each election.
It's very subtle, and it's very frustrating.
