This made me smile the widest on all these gloomy awful daysnevrafireFebruary 5 2014, 00:45:22 UTC
Rowling is Bound to say something (Her and emma who also said something awful "would ron make hermione happy?) ,
there's no way they can ignore this ginourmous amount of visceral dislike for this "authorial intent retconning" and not backpedal in someway.
so I hope all this ends up being a mistake and even rowling admits she was wrong is saying this (author or no author- she can't have encourage us to ROOT so deeply for this couple to then disolve it by interview because it stemmed from "wish fullfilment"
because if that's the case- Harry and Ginny fail just as much in terms of "credibility"

Yeah, I'm still a good bit pissed off even after the interview in it's entirety was released.
And the Ron making Hermione sentence is SO wrong on SO many levels.
• No one needs anyone else to make them happy. • It's impossible to make someone else happy. • Finding a new partner/date/spouse will not bring you happiness, it will bring another person into your unhappiness. • And even if it were possible to make someone else happy, it's not your partner's job to make you happy.
Sorry :)
I have a lot of feelings about that whole "I need someone to make me happy" mindset.
Thank you for stopping by to rant with me :) *hugs*
I know it's totally bragging, but I'm quasi friendly with her, since she's a DC-based culture writer? I will have to pass along everyone's thoughts about her awesomeness.
You have my absolute blessing to feel smug and/or brag.
The article is a comprehensive, well thought out piece with great references and arguments. For someone without "a dog in this hunt/race"... I forget her phrasing... but for someone who hasn't handicrafted a shrine to Ron and Hermione's love out of hot glued together tumblr printouts and glitter, your writer friend makes an impassioned case for why they work and how their relationship makes the books better.
It's a beautifully fucking articulated bit of rational argument, don't you think lol? And it's completely beyond my ability to have put into words, especially at the time it published. I'm sore even now. Then, I was too busy making white-knuckled-air-punch-fists-of-NOPE to organize my thoughts and rants :)

We, the faithful, appreciate her being a voice for us whilst some of us were busy gnashing :)
