All my spam messages seem to think I'm a man. They keep talking about how to enlarge my penis and look at single Christian women and how much I pleasure women.

Usually the contents of a message aren't supposed to mean anything - instead they're designed to get past spam filters and appear to machine eyes as a "legitimate" message. The true payload is then either in an attachment or a link to a sponsoring website.

But it was all in my spam folder. None of this was in my actual mailbox- I've just been letting gmail delete spam as it will and not looking at it. I still don't look at it- this is all from what I see of the preview of the message. It's still funny.

Right - not all spam is successful at getting through filters; Gmail does a pretty good job (in all my time using it I've only seen one or two spam e-mails get through). Still, the way spam e-mails are designed gives them a higher probability of success than if they were simply blatantly advertising a product or trying to get you to open a sketchy attachment.
