A friend who is as much if not more of a political geek as I am looked at me quizzically when I mentioned this opinion piece as evidence of why I think McCain will have a hard time winning. My friend scoffed as he had no inkling of this and if he didn't few others would either. (Probable true) Then he urged me to spread it around. So yeah, read it ( Read more... )

Ah, yes. That was a compelling editorial, though not the first time I'd heard those things about him. Americans are sheep. I'm actually terrified he'll get Powell to run with him, because I think that would give him a chance he shouldn't have (and won't have with Romney, I don't think).

Nobody is talking about Powell. I keep hearing Pawlenty and Lieberman as well as Romney. Pawlenty seems the most dangerous of those three. Although it would be nice if Lieberman ran and lost. Harry Reid would have to strip him of his committee-ships in that scenario. Admittedly in that scenraio Lieberman would probably have to switch to caucus with the Repubs and we'd have Cheney as the tie-breaker - gack.

Huh. I've read several places now that McCain's advisors are saying Powell is on the short list. Probably more a commentary on my news sources than anything else.

Of course, 2 months ago there were rumors he was on Obama's short list, too.

Mostly I'm hearing Romney, which I think would kill McCain's chances. I don't much care who he loses with, so long as he loses....

Actually searching the internets suggests that McCain asked and Powell said no. But that people admire Powell more than McCain so McCain is peddling the rumor that he's considering Powell. Powell won't say who he's voting for be did say glowing things about Obama in an interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auco5TU8Y9g So while I think Powell would be a devastating choice as veep I am not worried.

I think Romney is a ship sinker as well so my fingers are crossed.

But more importantly - how's your stomach? up for dinner this week?
