Rodolphus looked down his nose at his sister-in-law. Bellatrix merely sneered.
Narcissa ignored them, and spoke of pragmatism, economic necessity, and the need to guard the Malfoy estate from incursions of the Dark Lord's enemies.
But Narcissa had chosen not to join for a very different reason.
A Death Eater's commitment was inscribed in her skin, for any Auror or judge to see.
If she were imprisoned, she would lose her son.
And her love for her son was carved in her bones.
