Where have you been?

I was at Gran Canaria, the third largest island of the Canary Islands, just outside the coast of Africa :) It is part of Spain, but I must admit that I found it very different from mainland Spain. There is a quite different rhytm to life there. We thought Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands were named after the Canary bird, but as it turns out is actually after Canis, dog, so literally dog islands. We thought that was rather funny. It also explained all the dogs we kept seeing :) The Canarians seemed to love animals.
