What do you get, when you fall in love...?

Ah, films...

I always try not to expect too much out of films, through far too many disappointments down the years. But sometimes, you let your guard slip. You hear interviews where the director's vision for the film seems perfect.  You hear critics raving about the brilliance of the performances.  As it was with "The Dark Knight"

My assumption was ( Read more... )

I felt the way it was done didn't fit in with the way the Joker had been portrayed in the earlier parts the film - with some meat, some grit. They probably could have handled that scene(including the nurses outfit) in a way that had some menace, but I didn't feel that at all. To me, it just felt like it'd momentarily turned into a Carry-On film.

I'm not really commenting on the Joker as he appears across all his various media portrayals - as haven't particularly read any of the comics, I'm not in a position to do that.

General comments from people involved in making the film and from reviews talk about Ledger's Joker as a new characterization, so I'm only really comparing within the film. The hospital scene is really just a example of how the two halves of the film seemed at odds.

Based on your recommendation, I'll look out for the Killing Joke comic - I wasn't aware that the film was inspired by a specific story.

Part of the things about movies is that they press different people's buttons in different ways.

I didn't like Batman Begins at all - but I thought Dark Knight was pretty awesome. Will agree with you on it feeling a bit long though.

True.

When I went to see Batman Begins, I wasn't expecting too much, and was pleasantly surprised.

I expected a lot of the new film and was disappointed when it didn't work for me, and frustrated because I could see all the ways that it could have. But yeah, different people, different buttons.

Following my apparently controversial review, I'm pleased it wasn't just me that found fault with it. I agree with you about Aaron Eckhart.

After Batman Begins (and after being a comics fan for the past 18 years), I wanted more. The last film was beautifully shot, paced well, and had a much tighter script as well as a less cluttered cast. I have plenty of other issues with The Dark Knight, but that about sums it up.

I felt it went on too long as well. I thought after they first captured the Joker that'd be it and I was quite looking forward to standing up again, but it was not to be :)

I have to say though, silly, related to the plot or totally pointless, Heath Ledger in a Nurse's outfit did it for me! ;)
