as with all kids, i eventually learnt how to ride a bike. i was handed a huffy and left to learn how to ride from a friend... what resulted was that i learned the basics out of order. the first thing i learned how to do was to keep it going in motion, meaning the concepts of turning and breaking were foreign to me. this became all too apparent on ( Read more... )

I think a lot of kids learn how to ride the bike around before they learn how to stop it. For a few weeks after I learned how to ride, I would steer toward a soft patch of grass every time I wanted to stop, and just fall over sideways as painlessly as possible.

Hm... growing up and things. Good luck getting the rest of the entry written.

I STILL CAN'T TURN. I have to stop the bike and physically point myself in the direction I want to go, unless it's a very gentle, sloping turn.

Although I haven't ridden in years, really. Fell over too much. What does that say?

so we're using our experiences with riding a bike as euphimisms for growing up?
Well, we didn't have much of a problem learning out to ride it, but I noticed that we didn't ride very straight like other people. and we didn't learn until 3rd grade. we seemed to be behind everyone else on these sort of things.
This one time, Fia hit a curb, did a flip over on to the sidewalk, got some nasty cuts, and had to go get stitches. That was a fun afternoon. She never rode her bike that fast after that.
We both eventually just stopped riding bikes because nothing is really in biking distance. and plus I feel dumb in those helmets.
