Before anyone thinks he made a 'blend these ingredients together and pour them in a crust from the store' kind of pie, let me elaborate. He made the crust dough. He baked the acorn squash. He scooped out a cup of squash and mixed up all the ingredients for the squashy layer. He mixed up the pecan syrup for the caramelized middle layer. He rolled and formed the crust and put in the lower two layers. He baked it, and while it was baking he made the chantilly cream for the top layer. It's a very yummy pie (I was feeling well enough to try some this morning).
Narfi's house-running dad skills are very impressive. It's amazing that he got all that done, especially with Alfie hanging on his pants the whole time he was in the kitchen and wanting someone to play with him. For a little while I was feeling well enough to sit downstairs and read books to entertain Alfie, but that's all I contributed to this endeavor. I lay in bed feeling awful or sleeping most of the day.
