So I’ve been working productively and diligently at the Space Puma book, my master’s thesis. It’s coming together, I’m breathing down the neck of being done draft II. (A kind of short draft II, but we’re almost there.) Everything is wonderful ( Read more... )

I completely understand too many irons in the fire. I have three different projects floating about in my brain and I'm trying so very hard not to think about a fourth lurking back there. I'm only really supposed to be working on one of them this term. My problem is that I love them all.

I would just schedule different days. Today is a werewolf day, tomorrow in a puma day. Or something like that.

I have to do that to get through all the course work I have this term and that seems to be working well (Monday and Tuesday are Arnzen days, Wednesday and Thursday are Wendlend days. The weekend is for writing/critiquing. Friday is a free for all.

I'm becoming an advocate of schedules. Figure out how much time you need to devote between now and when SP is done to getting SP done. Break that down in daily or weekly chunks (I prefer daily) with hiatuses for rejuvenation and plot boiling built in.

Since SP is your thesis, I advocate putting it on the schedule first.

Next, look at the time you have remaining. How much do you want to devote to WW! each day/week? Get yourself an hour-by-hour daily calendar (I just picked mine up at WalMart for $6).

Put your writing times and days for each project in PEN on your calendar. Treat it like a date with a friend. You'd put those in pen, wouldn't you?

Voila. You can have it all!
