Rooting for Belasco? You are wicked. Do you pull for Leatherface too?
I agree with your comparisons for the most part. You make the Eleanor/Edith competition closer than it should be. Eleanor is a much better crazy lady than Edith. Both could be using the house as an excuse for their crazy, but Eleanor seems more well rounded as a character.
Now we need to see if we can get the two houses into a Extreme Makeover Home Edition fight.
I rooted for Belasco too. I loved the book, even though the ending was kind of *meh.* As a fellow short person, though, I really got behind his character.
Hell House Vs. Hill House

I agree that Jackson's Hill House is much more subtle in its terror. Although I liked Hell House because of its up in your face quality, I have to admit that some of the graphic descriptions in Hell House left little to the imagination. On another note, the idea of Dr. Barrett's maching kind of brought me out of the story. My first thought was "oh come on, a ghost busting machine?" But, I guess something like that was needed to propel the rest of the plot. - Swea
