A few days later Caleb, Pogue, and Reid were waiting at a picnic table for Tyler. It was four o’ clock on Saturday afternoon and they had the rest of the week off. Reid had his head on his hands, half asleep. Pouge was looking at the sky and Caleb was playing with his cell phone.

“When’s Baby Boy getting here?” Reid sighed.

“Soon,” Caleb said annoyed.

“Shut up you two. There he is anyway,” Pogue said, pointing to Tyler.

“What’s he doing?” Reid asked annoyed. Tyler was carrying a couple duffle bags and was walking behind a couple of girls.

“Let’s go see,” Pogue said getting up. They walked into the dorms and followed Tyler and the girls.

“Hey Baby Boy!” Reid yelled causing some girls passing them to turn and snicker.

“Hey Reid. Caleb, Pogue,” Tyler said setting the duffle bags down, “Sorry I was taking so long. But Lea and Taylor asked for my help and..”

“Wait. Lea and Taylor? Tyler who are these girls and why haven’t I met them?” Reid asked a smug grin on his face.

“Because we just transferred in dickhead.”
Reid and the others turned around and came face to face with a tall brunette with dark green eyes and a tall mahogany haired girl with blue eyes. He looked her up and down and smiled, “Reid Garwin. Good evening.”

“Lea Danforth. And actually it is still morning. It’s only 11:59,” she said.

“Lea, don’t pay attention to him. He hits on every girl he sees,” Tyler smiled.

“Oh! Thanks Tyler. We really appreciate the help. We’re sorry to keep you waiting,” Lea said opening the door and helping Tyler put in the duffle bags.

“That’s okay. Lea, Taylor. These are my friends. This is Pogue Parry, Caleb Danvers, and Reid’s already introduced himself. Guys this is Lea Danforth and Taylor Smith. They are new at Spencers.”

“Cool. So where’d you move from?” Pogue asked.

“Salem,” came a voice behind the guys. Caleb Reid and Pogue turned around and saw two other girls.

“Guys the brunette is Pagan Parker and the blonde is Riann Goodwin. These are our other two friends. Pa, RI this is Tyler Sims, Reid Garwin, Caleb Danvers, and Pogue Parry,” Lea said.

“Nice to meet you. But yeah we hail from Salem,” Pagan said.

“So are you girls witches?” Reid asked backing Riann into the wall.

“Yeah,” Riann said, grabbing Reid balls, “Be careful. I might just put a spell on you.”

“Riann!” Lea said sternly.

“What he asked for it,” she replied letting go of him.

Reid doubled over and sunk to his knees.
He mumbled something under hi breath and slowly stood back up.

“That’s quiet a grip you have there,” he squeaked.

“Yeah, I know,” she smirked.

“Well guys we better get situated,” Taylor said staring at Riann and Reid, “Will we see you later?”

“Well, we’re all going to Nicky’s. You guys could come too,” Tyler said.

“Yeah,” Pogue said, “It’d give you guys a chance to get to know us and let us tell you about the people here. Good and Bad.”

“Aaron Abbott,” Reid coughed. They all laughed.

“Well only on two conditions,” Lea said, “One what is Nicky’s? And two can one of you show me the library?”

“Yeah sure,” Pogue said, “Nicky’s is a local bar that the kids a Spencers goes to. They have pool tables and foosball and a jukebox. It’s really kind of cool in it’s own grungy biker look.”

“And what about the library?” she asked again.

“I’ll be happy to show you,” Caleb said. Lea smiled and mouthed thanks.

“Well Baby Boy, if you’re done you can come with me,” Reid said and put his arm around the younger boys shoulders leading him off. Riann and Taylor went into the dorm room and left Lea, Pagan, Pouge and Caleb outside.

“Well I guess I better be going too,” Pogue said, “I gotta pick up my bike.”

“Bike?” Pagan asked.

“Yeah Pogue here has a 2003 Ducati749 that he totally demolished last month,” Caleb said half laughing.

“What happened?” Pagan asked.

“Some idiot was standing in the middle of the road,” Pogue started, “and I kind of served to miss him and I flipped and landed ten feet from my ruined bike.”

“Wow and you survived that,” Pagan stated more than asked, “I’ve never had that happen to me but damn.”

“You have a bike?” Pogue asked?

“Yeah. 2003 Ducati749 too. My dad bought it for me for my sixteenth birthday,” Pagan said.

“Funny,” Pogue half laughed, “Would you like to go with me to get my bike? I could use the company.”

“Sure,” Pagan said, “Just let me get my coat out of my room.”

“Kay,” Pogue said and followed Pagan down the hall.

“Well, it’s just you and me,” Caleb sighed.

“Yeah, “Lea said half smiling.

“So do you want to see the library now?” he asked.

“Sure,” she smiled, “Just let me get my coat.” Lea stepped inside her room and got her coat. She and Caleb walked down the hall and down the stairs.

“So how long have you guys been going here?” she asked him.

“Since we started school. We grew up in Ipswich and our fathers went here and our grandfathers and so forth. We’ve been here forever. We started in Spencers Primary went to Spencers Junior Academy and wound up here.”

“Well, that’s pretty long. We had been going to Salem Prep. It was okay, but the bitches there are horrible. Much better here,” she laughed.

“I don’t know about that. Kira is pretty catty,” he responded.

“Who is this girl and should I be on the look out for her?” Lea asked.

“She’s this girl who wants to go out with me and I just don’t like her. Particularly because of her boyfriend Aaron. He’s the biggest prick ever and treats girls like dirt. He picks a fight with me every time he sees me.”

“Ah, I think I may have kneed him in the balls. It’s was pretty funny,” she laughed and Caleb smiled.

“Well new girl takes down the school prick. Nice job.”

“Thank you.”

“So tell me a bit about your self Lea,” Caleb said.

“Well I’m eighteen. I play soccer, I love movies and music. My friends mean everything to me. I love school. Sports rock. I have a golden retriever named Levi. The girls and grew up together, because our parents grew up together. Umm, I love horses and rain, well thunderstorms in general. I surf. I write,” she said, “Well what about you Danvers? What do you have an interest for?”

“Well basically the same things as you except I swim. And the dog thing, Tyler’s the one who loves dogs. I don’t surf, horses kind of scare me, I want so bad to go to Harvard. At least a good school. Um, I like off-roading with the guys though Reid scares me a bit.”

“Well that doesn’t surprise me,” she laughed, “He was a little straight forward with me. I was afraid I was going to slap him.”

“Oh please do,” Caleb said, seriousness in his voice, “He’s not used to some girl turning him down. It’d do him some good.”

Lea nodded her head. They came upon a big building with several students standing outside.

“Well this is it,” Caleb said. He opened the door for Lea and she walked in. She whispered a thank you and started to walk in the shelves of the library.

“What exactly are you looking for?” he asked in a hushed tone.

“Nothing really. Just seeing if the Provost’s was right. It isn’t that impressive though. Salem’s was better. You wanna go?” she asked.

“If you do,” he replied. She nodded and they walked out of the library.

“So do you have to have a library card to check out book?” she asked walking beside him.

“Student I.D.,” he said, “It’s easier.”

“Oh,” she said.

“Hey do you wanna ride to Nicky’s?” he asked looking at her. She stopped and looked at him.

“Yeah, since I don’t know where it is, I’d hope
someone would give me a ride,” she smiled.

“You wanna a tour of Ipswich first?” he asked a
smile plastered on his face.

“Sure,” she smiled, “I’ll meet you outside my dorm room in an hour and thirty minutes.”

“Okay,” he said as she walked back to her room.

Lea opened her door and walked into her room. She went to her closet and looked through her clothes. She choose her favorite blue jean skirt and a navy blue long-sleeve shirt and a red tank top. She set them on her bed and walked into the bathroom she and Pagan shared. She undressed and put a towel around herself and grabbed a small bag containing a washcloth, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. She stuck her head out of her door and made sure no one was around and when the coast was clear she walked to the showers. She stepped into the first one and quickly got a five-minute shower. When she was wrapping the towel around her she heard a crash and saw the lights flicker on and off. She stepped cautiously out of the shower and looked around. When she didn’t see anyone she grabbed her things and left. When she got back to her room she found Pagan and Pogue looking through some old albums.

“Hey,” she said a blush coming to her cheeks.

“Hey, “ Pogue and Pagan replied in unison.

“Sorry, I’ll be out of your way in a minute,” she
said taking her clothes and heading into the bathroom. She heard Pogue say something and Pagan snicker. She rolled her eyes and plugged up her hair dryer. She got dressed and started on her hair. When she finished she took a curling iron and curled the end of her hair. She put on her makeup and walked out of the bathroom and got her UGGS® from under the bed. She noticed Pouge and Pagan had left and she sat down at her computer and started to play a game until she heard a knock on the door. She opened it and smiled.

“Hey Caleb,” she said as she let him in.

“Hi,” he smiled back and faced her, “You look, wow.”

She blushed, “Thanks. You don’t look bad yourself.”

“Thanks,” he smiled again, “Are you ready to go?”

“Almost,” she said and turned off the computer. She
turned to her closet door and got her purse, got her keys off her bed side table got her blue jean jacket, and got her cell phone. She turned to him and smiled, “I am now.”

“Well let’s go,” he said. As he pulled out of Spencers main way, he looked at her.

“What?” she asked smiling as he grinned.

“Nothing,” he said looking back at the road. They were silent for a few minutes until Caleb asked, “Do you mind walking around a bit?”

“No,” Lea replied. He pulled in a parking space at the end of a street and turned off the car

“Good,” he said, “Walking down the streets is a better way to see everything.”

They got out and started walking up the street.

“That’s The local bakery. Their cakes a great. That’s the local auto shop were we all get are vehicles fixed. Umm.. That’s the local grocery store, that’s the local coffee shop. Better than Starbucks in my opinion.”

“Can we go?” she asked, eyeing the coffee shop closely.

“Sure,” Caleb smiled and took her hand. They look both ways and crossed the road and went inside. The smell of freshly ground coffee filled the air. Lea looked around and noticed the high ceilings. She and Caleb walked up to the counter and looked at the menu. A cashier came up and greeted them and took their order. Lea ordered a hot tea and a slice of angle food cake and Caleb got tea. The got their orders and sat down at a table near the window.

“It’s really pretty here in Ipswich,” Lea said looking out the window.

“Yeah,” Caleb sighed setting down his tea, “So what brought you to Ipswich?”

“Besides the good school, my father. He and my mother wanted me to attended their alma mater. Well my mother passed away and my dad decided never to send me, to keep me in Salem with him. That was until last month. My dad decided that it would be best for me to go here. It just so happens that Pagan, Riann, and Taylor’s parents finished here and had the same idea. So we came here for a higher education. Plus I also would like to go to Harvard,” she said.

“My father was the class of seventy-seven. From Spencers of course. Eighty-one from Harvard.”

“My dad went to Yale. My mom went to Harvard,” she smiled. They sat in silence for a bit. Lea was looking around and noticed two girls sitting four tables over from the. They were both giving her bad looks but the blonde’s was kind of a death glare. She looked back at Caleb and asked, “So do you have a girl-friend?”

“No,” he said, his voice low, “ The girls over their, well the blonde is my ex. Her name is Sarah. The other one, Kate, she was Pogue’s girlfriend.”

“Why’d you all break up?” Lea asked her voice quiet, looking at Caleb who was avoiding her gaze. He was quiet for a few seconds and he looked at her. His face was sad and looked as if he wanted to hit something.

“It was family issues,” he said plainly, hinting he didn’t want to talk about it,.

“Don’t worry, I know how you feel,” she replied meeting his gaze. He smiled weakly. He gave him a reassuring smile.

“Want to see the rest of the town?” he asked, smiling more happily now.

“I’d love too,” she smiled. He got up and took his cup and Lea’s plate and put her plate in the trash. She got her cup and followed him out. They walked down to the pier and stood at the end. A warm breeze blew and sent Lea’s hair flying. Caleb laughed and put a piece of it behind her ear. She looked at him and smiled. The sun was setting and it was getting a bit colder out so Caleb walked behind her and wrapped his jacket around her. She smiled back at him and blushed slightly. The wind picked up again and blew Lea’s hair around. This time Caleb moved to put the strand of hair behind her ear she caught his hand and pulled it down to her waist. She moved closer to him and looked into his eyes. She placed her free hand on his cheek and caressed it gently. He took his free hand and did the same. He looked at her and brought his lips down to meet hers in a sweet kiss. She let go of his hand and placed both of her hands on the back of his neck. When he broke the kiss, he looked down and said, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have done that.”

“Don’t apologize Caleb. You didn’t do anything but kiss me. And I liked it,” she said and kissed him softly again. When she broke the kiss he smiled at her, “Want to skip Nicky’s and go to dinner with me. Like on a date maybe?”

“I thought this was a date,” she said, the tone of her voice letting him know she was kidding.

“Well, We can end our date with dinner then,” he smiled.’

“I’d love too,” she smiled and kissed him a gain before they left.
