In 1980, an 18-year-old girl found herself in her first year of college.  She had come from an imperfect family (don't we all?) with parents who had basically ignored her for most of her life.  Drugs and alcohol became a coping mechanism, and yet she still managed to earn a Presidential Scholarship and found herself in a whole new world.  Because

Wow, me too. First boyfriend left me, decided to end it all. Turned out all I had was 4 aspirin and a bottle of Vitamin C - which would make me healthier, not gone! Decided that if God had a sense of humor about my life, then maybe I should too. I've gone on to make my work making everybody healthier, and my sense of humor enabled me to survive much heartache over the years. I had forgotten about that night, until you wrote your missive. I'm increasingly amazed at how many of us in this life (particularly when we are younger) have those same feelings. And thank God that many of us are spared, either because it was Vitamin C (grin) or by miracles. The world would have been a MUCH poorer place without you - I'm so grateful to God that you are in it! You "pay it forward" every time I am in your presence, because you make me feel happy. So glad you've been gifted to me!
