I think it's more the cost of the electricity which powers the pump that compresses the air, but your point is still valid.

Interesting....a couple of years ago I wrote a song about air becoming commodified according to good free market principles:

"These days
nothing is for free
No not even
the air that we breathe"....

"Supply is low
Demand is high
'Cos without air
People die"
