I think the reason writing stories in Japanese is so much less stressful is because it's not my native language so I have an excuse to suck at it. English, on the other hand, is so familiar that logically I should be able to put together sentences in a way that won't make me cringe. AND YET ( Read more... )

I'm not sure if it's been proved with research or not, but apparently when you start off using one language to talk about certain things it feels funny to talk about the same things in another language. For instance, if someone fell in love and started a relationship while speaking mostly English, English might always be the language that feels right to them for describing romance and feelings, even if it was their second language. I read a lot of manga in Japanese in my teens! And now when I read and write Japanese corny things sound wonderful to me :>

「俺」や「僕」は、英語では表現しづらい、と言うか私にはちょっと無理。 日本語で書いて正解。

You're right, but the problem is that while the characters speak English in my head, as soon as I set the words down in Open Office I want to die of embarassment XD;

I made that joke because I was writing in Japanese, actually. In English I would have come up with a different gag.
