At exactly 5 o’clock in the afternoon, the school bell rang, signaling the end of classes. Students hurriedly packed their things inside their bags, eager to go home or hang out with friends. The teachers were still blabbing about something to the students, but no one was really listening.

A sigh escaped Mr. Lee’s lips because his students weren’t listening to him anymore. He cursed the damn school bell inwardly. He was the Math teacher of class 3-B. He grabbed his things on the teacher’s table and left his students.

“Ah, finally, we can go home.” Yunho said as he stretched his arms upward and stiffled a yawn. Clearly, he was just sleeping for the whole duration of their Math class.

“Yunho, how will you pass Math if you’re always like that?” Jaejoong spoke whose seat was beside Yunho’s.

“Well, I can always borrow your notes and ask you to tutor me.” Yunho answered his friend with a cheeky grin on his face.

“Yah, you can’t always depend on me. I’m your friend and not your tutor.” Jaejoong pointed out.

“Correction. You are my friend and my tutor.”

“Aish. Whatever.” Jaejoong said in an annoyed tone and started walking towards the door.

“Jae, where are you going?” Yunho asked to the leaving Jaejoong.

“To my locker.” Jaejoong answered without looking back.

“Wait! Let’s go together!” Yunho hurriedly said and went after Jaejoong who was already in the corridor. Jaejoong ignored his friend and continued walking. His friend dashed towards him.

“How mean of you, leaving me like that.” Yunho said and playfully nudged Jaejoong’s shoulders. Jaejoong shot Yunho a scandalized but playful look and took revenge by doing the same to Yunho. Both of them laughed at their silliness.

The two reached their lockers in no time. They opened it and left their books inside. Yunho finished and locked his locker first. Jaejoong was about to do the same when he noticed something inside his locker.

“Oh, what’s this?” Jaejoong said curiously as he held the object. It was an envelope.

“What have you got there?” Yunho went to Jaejoong’s place to see what his friend was talking about.

“I found this envelope inside my locker.”

“What’s inside?”

Jaejoong didn’t answer and opened the envelope. There was a paper inside which seemed like a letter. Jaejoong opened it and read the content. His eyes widened in surprise. It was indeed a letter.

“What did it say?” Yunho asked.

“Uhm, it’s a…I think it’s a love letter.” Jaejoong said quietly.

“Love letter?” Yunho gave a small laugh. “Who in their right mind would give you a love letter?”

“Yah! If you don’t believe me then read it!” Jaejoong huffed and shoved the letter towards Yunho. Yunho took it and started to read.

“Amazing. You found yourself an admirer.” Yunho teased.

“Whatever. Give me that.” Jaejoong snatched the letter and put it back inside the envelope.

“Jae, don’t get carried away, okay? This love letter might just be a prank.” Yunho sarcastically gave advice.

“You know what, I think you’re just jealous because someone is interested in me and you have no one.” Jaejoong shot back.

“Jae, Jae, Jae. Who do you think you are talking about? I’m Jung Yunho. Every girl here in our school wants to date me. I can’t even count anymore how many people confessed to me.” Yunho coolly replied.

“Then why don’t you have a girlfriend?” Jaejoong challenged.

“That’s because I don’t like any of them.”

“Who do you like then?”

“You.”

Silence filled the whole corridor. Jaejoong stared at Yunho, wide-eyed. After a few seconds, Yunho burst out laughing at his friend.

“Jae, you actually fell for that?” Yunho tried suppressing his laughter.

“Yah! Jung Yunho! Of course I didn’t believe that!” Jaejoong roared in anger and embarrassment. Actually, some miniscule part of him believed Yunho, but he wouldn’t dare tell that to him.

“Then why are your cheeks getting red?” Yunho continued teasing the poor Jaejoong.

“I’m not blushing!” Jaejoong denied but he could already feel his face getting hot.

“Okay. I’ll stop now.” Yunho said as he tried his best to stop laughing. Suddenly, a pain shot inside him. Jaejoong harshly kicked him on his right knee and quickly ran away.

“Serves you right Yunho!” Jaejoong shouted while running away from his friend.

“Yah! Kim Jaejoong! Come back here! You’re dead meat when I catch up with you!” Yunho tried to move but it was not possible at that moment. Jaejoong kicked him too hard. Yunho winced in pain.

“Jae! I can’t move!” Yunho whined as he sat on the floor.

Jaejoong stopped on his tracks and looked back. He saw his friend’s slightly contorted face and started walking towards him.

“Hey, did I kick you that hard?” Jaejoong said, feeling a little bit guilty.

“Of course you did. Gosh, you are so violent.” Yunho complained.

“Need help?” Jaejoong smiled and held out his hand. Yunho grabbed Jaejoong’s hand and hoisted himself up. Jaejoong steadied Yunho by holding on his waist while Yunho’s arm was around Jaejoong’s shoulder.

“Jae, please don’t do that again. I might not be able to walk anymore if you do that one more time.” Yunho begged playfully.

“Laugh at me again like that and I won’t hesitate kicking you again.” Jaejoong laughed.

It was already late in the night and Jaejoong was still wide awake. He was lying on his bed while staring blankly at the white ceiling of his bedroom. The letter that he got from his anonymous admirer was bothering him. It confused Jaejoong whether someone really liked him or it was just a prank, as Yunho so kindly told him. He reached for the letter on his bedside table and reread it.

Hello Jaejoong. I’m not good at making letters so please bear with me. This is the only way that I know how to express my feelings to you.

I like you Kim Jaejoong. This might be too sudden, but I really do. Once I gather the courage, I will reveal myself to you.

Take care of yourself.

“Who could you be?” Jaejoong asked while staring at the letter, hoping to spot some clue. But the letter didn’t reveal anything to him and it burned his curiosity more. Whoever was his secret admirer, he made sure not to leave any clue behind.

******

The next day at school, when Jaejoong opened his locker to fetch his books, he found another white envelope which was very identical to the one he received yesterday. He quickly opened it.

Jaejoong, I love it when you smile. Keep on smiling radiantly and beautifully.

It was a short message, but it made Jaejoong’s heart skip a beat. A smile formed in his lips as he looked at the letter.

“Hey, why are you smiling like that?” Yunho approached his friend.

“Because of this.” Jaejoong happily replied as he waved the paper in front of Yunho’s face. Yunho quickly snatched it and read the content.

“Jae, don’t get so carried away. You don’t even know who is writing to you.”

“I don’t see any harm in this. It’s not like the person is asking to meet me.”

“So, do you have a clue who it is?”

“No, not a single one. I’m not sure, but my admirer is probably studying here in our school. As for the handwriting, I don’t recognize it.”

Ever since the very first letter, Jaejoong’s secret admirer never failed to give him a letter. All of the messages were short ones, but they made Jaejoong feel warm and happy inside. It felt so good to know that someone greatly appreciated him.

It came to a point that Jaejoong wanted to know badly the identity of his secret admirer. He had a hunch that whoever was giving him the letters, that person dropped the letters inside his locker when classes were over and the school was already deserted.

“Jae, let’s go home.” Yunho said to Jaejoong who was still lingering inside their classroom.

“You go first. I have something to do.”

“And what is that?” Yunho raised an eyebrow.

“I’m going to catch whoever is giving me letters.” Jaejoong answered and smiled confidently.

“Well, good luck to you. Just don’t go ranting to me about how you stayed here and ended up with nothing.”

“I won’t because I’m going to know who it is. I’ve got a good feeling about this.” Jaejoong said, not letting Yunho dampen his hopes.

“Okay. I’ll go first.” Yunho said and started leaving.

“Bye. See you tomorrow.”

Jaejoong had everything planned already. He found a spot where he could see the lockers without being seen. It was a classroom not far from the lockers. All he had to do was wait for someone to approach his locker.

Minutes passed and no one came to his locker to drop something. Jaejoong was starting to think that Yunho was right. He was considering to drop his plan because it didn’t seem to be working. He was about to go out of his hiding place when a person appeared near the lockers.

Excitement rushed through Jaejoong’s veins. He watched the person intently. Jaejoong recognized his fellow 3rd year student. It was Akanishi Jin from class 3-C. He was a transferee from Japan.

“What is he doing?” Jaejoong whispered to himself and continued on watching.

Jin was slowly approaching the lockers, glancing at his surroundings from time to time. His eyes roamed to find the locker that he was looking for. Once he found it, he reached inside his pocket and took out a white envelope. He was about to drop it inside the locker when he heard a fake cough. Startled, he quickly turned around and hid the envelope behind him.

“So you’re the one giving me the letters every day?” Jaejoong asked straight to the point. “You’re my anonymous admirer?”

Jin got over Jaejoong’s surprise appearance and shyly answered, “Y-yes.”

‘Whoa~ I can’t believe this. I have a guy as an admirer.’ Jaejoong thought.

“Akanishi-san, you do know that we are both guys right?” Jaejoong had to clear things out.

“So? I don’t care Jaejoong. I like you and that is all that matters to me.” Jin answered with no trace of his previous shyness.

Jaejoong was speechless. He just got a personal confession. He didn’t know what to respond. He just stood there in front of Jin with his beautiful eyes focused on the other’s eyes. What he saw in Jin’s eyes convinced him of the man’s sincerity.

‘Am I going to have a love life now?’ Jaejoong thought to himself and butterflies fluttered inside his stomach as he and Jin stared at each other’s eyes, sharing an intimate connection that was not exactly how he felt when reading his letters, but very close to that.

“Yunho!” Jaejoong exclaimed in excitement as soon as he spotted his friend.

“What’s with the cheerful aura?” Yunho inquired.

“I already know who my secret admirer is.” Jaejoong said and smiled.

“No way.” Yunho blurted out. His expression was a mixture of shock and surprise.

“It’s Akanishi Jin.”

“The Japanese guy?”

“Yes.”

“How did that happen?” Yunho asked, more to himself than to Jaejoong. He had a troubled expression on his face.

“Oh, by the way, I’ll be eating with Jin later. I won’t be joining you and the others.” Jaejoong said. Yunho wasn’t able to reply because their Chemistry teacher already arrived.

During lunchtime at the cafeteria, Yunho was in a totally bad mood. He wasn’t eating what he bought for lunch and was busy glaring at two people happily chatting. Jaejoong and Jin shared a table beside a window.

“Yah, Yunho, what’s wrong with you today?” Donghae, one of Yunho and Jaejoong’s friends, asked.

“Nothing.”

“And why is Jae with Akanishi Jin?” Donghae glanced at Jin and Jaejoong.

“I don’t know Hae! Just ask Jae, okay?” Yunho snapped but quickly recovered. He immediately apologized to his friend and just left the cafeteria.

“What’s wrong with me? Everything is my fault in the first place.” Yunho said to himself.

Ever since Jaejoong found out about Jin, they have been inseparable. Jin was always with Jaejoong during breaks and he always accompanied Jaejoong back to his house. One weekend, Jin asked Jaejoong out on their very first date.

The two of them went to the mall and were just strolling around while sharing stories to each other. They also watched a movie and had dinner together.

Donghae, who was also in the mall, spotted Jaejoong with Jin. He really needed to talk to Yunho. He quickly left and went to Yunho’s house.

“Hae, what brings you here at this hour?” Yunho was surprised to see Donghae. He invited him inside the house but Donghae insisted that they talk ouside. They settled near the lamp post outside Yunho’s house.

“Yunho, what are you doing?” Donghae asked seriously.

“What am I doing? I’m here outside, talking to you.” Yunho answered, confused at Donghae’s actions.

“No. Why aren’t you doing anything about Jaejoong?”

“I don’t understand what you are talking about.” Yunho averted Donghae’s eyes.

“You know very well what I am talking about. I know that you like Jaejoong. Why are you letting Jin take Jae away from you?!” Donghae was starting to raise his voice in frustration.

“How did you..” Yunho started but was immediately cut off by Donghae.

“I know that those letters that Jaejoong received were from you. You’re his secret admirer.” Donghae confessed to the bewildered Yunho.

“You saw me?”

“Yes. Now enough about that. I want to know why you aren’t doing anything.”

“Jae is already happy with Jin. You know that very well. So why do I have to butt in and ruin everything for him?” Yunho said, trying his best to ignore the pain in his heart. It broke his heart to see Jaejoong with Jin every day at school. It hurt him to no end that Jaejoong smiled for Jin. It was torture that Jaejoong only had eyes for Jin. But he didn’t have the courage to do anything. Jaejoong was already happy.

“Yunho, come on, don’t be such a coward! You have to act now or else Jae will be taken away from you for good. You still have a chance. Go and grab it!” Donghae did his best to encourage Yunho.

“I don’t know Hae.” Yunho quietly spoke with his head down. When it comes to Yunho’s true feelings for Jaejoong, his arrogance and pompousness disappear like bubbles.

“Yunho, you can’t lose without having a fight. Fight for Jae. You have to look for your own happiness.” Donghae advised. “Those are my last words for you. I leave the decision to you.”

Jin and Jaejoong were walking side by side in the dimly lit street to Jaejoong’s house. Both of them were silent as they suddenly ran out of a topic.

Suddenly, Jaejoong’s slightly cold hand felt something warm enclose it. He glanced down and saw Jin’s hand holding his own. He looked at Jin’s shy and flushed face and couldn’t help but smile.

They arrived outside Jaejoong’s house in no time. Jin reluctantly let go of Jaejoong’s hand.

“Thank you for your time Jae.” Jin said.

“No problem. I had a great time.” Jaejoong smiled.

Jin was hesitating at first but decided to give it a try. He went closer to Jaejoong as he tilted his head to the side. Jaejoong watched Jin and knew what was coming. He was about to experience his first kiss. He didn’t know how to react because he lacked experience in those kinds of things so he just stayed still and waited for Jin’s lips to touch his own.

“Jae!” someone shouted and distracted both Jin and Jaejoong. Jin’s face was just a few inches away from Jaejoong’s and he backed away upon hearing someone. Jaejoong turned around.

“Yunho?” Jaejoong uttered in surprise.

Yunho didn’t waste any more time. He walked towards Jaejoong and, once he was close enough, wrapped an arm around Jaejoong’s slim waist and pulled Jaejoong towards him. Yunho’s free hand cupped Jaejoong’s cheek and he kissed Jaejoong.

Yunho’s lips were very gentle against Jaejoong’s. Jaejoong could feel his friend’s soft lips. He couldn’t believe what happened. Yunho just kissed him. It was the last thing that he expected to happen. But all of those thoughts were immediately thrown to the wind when Yunho started moving his lips, gently sucking on Jaejoong’s lips.

The sensation sent shivers down Jaejoong’s spine, electric jolts inside his body, and fluttering butterflies in his stomach. Jaejoong found himself responding to the kiss, even if he didn’t know if he was doing it right. Jaejoong felt exactly the same intimate connection he felt when reading his secret admirer’s letters.

Their kiss deepened without them being aware of it. Both of them took time exploring each other’s warm cavern for the first time. Their tongues danced with each other with rhythm.

They ended the kiss to catch some air but Yunho didn’t let go of Jaejoong. His arm was securely around Jaejoong’s waist. He gently caressed Jaejoong’s face as he gazed at Jaejoong’s beautiful orbs. Jaejoong’s eyes were drawn to Yunho’s like a magnet. He couldn’t look away though he was very embarrassed from making out with his friend.

“Yunho, uhm, care to explain everything?” Jaejoong asked. His heart beat rapidly because of Yunho’s intense gaze. Their very close proximity wasn’t helping.

“I like you.” Yunho finally confessed to his friend. Jaejoong’s heart wanted to escape from his chest because of Yunho’s words.

“Yah, Yunho, if this is another one of your jokes…”

“This isn’t a joke Jae. My feelings for you are sincere and true. I think I expressed them enough through my letters.”

“Your letters?”

“I’m your secret admirer.”

“Wait. If you really wrote those letters, then Jin…” Jaejoong glanced at Jin.

“I’m so sorry Jae. I’m sorry for lying.” Jin apologized with his head bowed down. He really didn’t intend to lie in the first place. He liked Jaejoong and decided to confess his feelings through a letter. Jaejoong confused him as his secret admirer and Jin grabbed the opportunity. His feelings for Jaejoong weren’t a lie.

“I’m really sorry Jae.” Jin left Yunho and Jaejoong. Jaejoong didn’t stop him. He was hurt because Jin lied to him, and there was even more pain because he was very close to thinking that Jin was the one for him.

“Why didn’t you tell me anything Yunho?” Jaejoong asked for an answer.

“It’s because I was too cowardly to tell you what I really feel about you. That’s why I resorted to the letters. It was hard for me Jae. It was much harder because of the fact that we are friends. And then Jin came into the picture and I saw that you are happy with him. That’s why I didn’t say anything anymore. I’m sorry.” Yunho explained.

“You’re so silly, you know that?” Jaejoong chuckled. Yunho laughed along with Jaejoong.

“So when I asked you whom you liked and you answered “you”, that wasn’t really a joke?”

“Of course not. I just hid the truth behind the lie. I’m brilliant right?” Yunho’s playful arrogance resurfaced again.

“I’ll ask you again, who do you like?” Jaejoong asked with a smile.

“You. Only you.” Yunho answered.
