Naruto 666: Two Mangekyou

The chapter opens with Obito's fist still in Madara's chest. Madara tries to rip out Obito's Rinnegan but fails because Obito used kamui to become intangible.

Madara's attempt fails.

Obito grabs Madara by the throat, and as he does we see what is either a genjutsu or "inner world" type thing where the Uchiha are standing on water. The difference is power is clearly visible here: Obito only has the Yin half of Kurama floating next to him whereas Madara's collection of tailed beasts lurks below like Leviathan.

The difference in power.

Obito tries to steal some of the tailed beasts, but only manages to make off with a piece of the Ichibi and Hachibi. Realising he's outmatched, he turns tail and shouts for Kakashi to take Naruto to the other dimension. Madara knows Obito's body needs to solidify when he teleports, and chooses this moment to strike. Obito uses a little of bit of Sage Mode-fu he stole to repel the attacks. Naruto and Sakura are safely tucked away in the other dimension. Sakura reflects on how she was so scared of Madara she almost forgot to breathe.

Sakura's thoughts on Madara.

Obito and Kakashi team up and prepare to show Madara what their combined Sharingan can do. We get a brief flashback of Team Minato with Kakashi and Obito bickering over their differing views of how ninja should behave. Madara believes he knows their intentions:

What Madara thought  they were going to do.

--and decides to get around this by attacking them both. (He was going to use this move but didn't want to damage Obito's Rinnegan.) But they pulled a fast one on him by not attacking at all and combining their Kamui-powers to get Obito out of there. Minato attempted to go and help, but...

He's been failing so consistently lately that I'm actually starting feel bad for him.

But luckily Gai was on hand to get Kakashi to safety. In the other dimension, Obito assures Sakura he's here to help and begins transferring the Yin kyuubi to Naruto.

My Thoughts

I make no secret of the fact that all-action chapters hold little interest for me, so I have to admit I was quite underwhelmed this week. But the chapter did provoke a few thoughts.
Naruto: The fact he's being brought back already when only about five people know he died is, to me, a big waste of dramatic tension. I get Kishi is rushing towards the end, but he could've milked it a bit, or made the rest of the alliance realise and despair over it for a chapter or two. (I think one or two of them knew, but not enough to provoke mass feelings of hopelessness.)

Obito and Kakashi: I like their teamwork, and the panels of their sharingan placed side-by-side.

Sakura: Not sure if I should roll my eyes about the only woman on the scene being the one to be overcome with terror, or praise her for having a brain.

Team Minato flashback: I found it really pointless as it showed us nothing new (unless you count Gai being able to inexplicably appear as a new thing).

Madara's imagination: When other characters think about what the enemy might do, the sequence is normally illustrated chibi-style. Madara is apparenly too dignified to think in chibis. XD

And something else this chapter got me wondering about:

Tenten and the sealing pots of doom:  I will say this for Kishi, he never does things quite the way I expect him to. Thinking about it, I'm not sure those pots even have any bijuu chakra in them anymore, since Obito would've already used it to make the Juubi the first time around. But as it looks like those pots aren't going to be used help Naruto, I suspect they will be used to defeat Madara and I don't like this.
Given how arrogant Madara is, I suppose it would be fitting for him to be defeated by the tools he was too awesome to care about. But "sealed for all eternity" is not a satisfactory end to Madara as far as I'm concerned. Aside from the fact I want his character to get some resolution, no one in Naruto who is "sealed for all enternity" ever stays sealed. Orochimaru didn't, the Hokages didn't. "Sealed forever" implies they can come back later. Ending the story in a way that implies Madara can come back in 1000 years would be a poor ending so I really, really hope Kishi has some other purpose in mind for those magic pots.
