Chapter 675: Sasuke's Rinnegan

As Madara throws his black rod, Obito uses Kamui to send Sakura back to the real world.

She then relates to Kakashi and Sasuke what happened in box-land. Obito was desperate for her to destroy his Rinnegan, claiming that Madara would be truly unstoppable if he got it back. Meanwhile, Madara reveals that he placed a Cursed Seal on Obito's heart to prevent him from harming himself. Obito, however, found a way around this: by goading Kakashi into impaling him with a Raikiri, he got Kakashi to remove that seal.

But that's not the only revelation Madara has in store. He orchestrated the whole event where Rin was made the Sanbi jinchuuriki, and placed a similar Cursed Seal on her. Like Obito, she destroyed the seal by having Kakashi Raikiri her.

Back in the real world, Naruto has immobilized the clone Madara created with his Limbo jutsu. Turning his attention to his maimed sensei, he regenerates Kakashi's left eye.

Kakashi reminisces about his first meeting with Team 7, and in particular the introductions that each of them gave. Naruto and Sakura are both still working towards the goals they expressed at that time, but Sasuke has achieved his: Itachi has bought the farm, kicked the bucket, run down the curtain, and joined the bleedin' choir invisible. So what is Sasuke's goal now?

Sasuke doesn't have time to answer, though: Madara is on his way. Kakashi reminds Team 7 about the Bell Test, and they affirm that they remember its lesson: they must work together.

While I had thought it highly likely that Madara manipulated circumstances such that Obito would arrive just a second too late to save Rin--Zetsu's sudden helpfulness seemed a little too convenient for me--I hadn't anticipated that Madara might have orchestrated the whole thing. It seems that most people on NF didn't expect this development either.

...Did Naruto really just render medic-nin entirely obsolete? I mean, I like Kakashi, so it's nice that he has his other eye back and all, but couldn't Sakura have been the one to heal him?

I liked the flashbacks of Team 7's first meeting, and the reminder that they'll need to work together to defeat Madara. One of my major complaints with the current arc has been that Naruto's continual parade of power-ups has rendered most of the other characters pretty much irrelevant (though Gaara did get a pretty good showing fighting Madara). It's nice to see that even he won't be able to defeat Madara all by himself, and it also fits in with Itachi's warning to him not to forget about his friends.
