Thanks a lot! It's not finished yet - there are still a few chapters to go, and I plan something long for when the manga ends. I guess the most interesting debates took place a couple of years ago when my emotional investment into the manga was still stronger - maybe starting with chapter 400 until chapter 500 - at that time I started to announce the chapter reviews at chuunin
I know, and I'm sad it's ending. I've never been one to read manga or comics so I've really appreciated this journal as a way to keep up. Prior to finding this I'd just go o Narutopedia and read various character bios there to try to piece together what was going on but that's not very efficient. I've been reading some of the older posts because I really do enjoy the reviewer commentaries and the group discussions. Thanks again!
artwork Agree, it was excellent this chapter. My fav panel would have to be the fist bump panel between Kurama and Susanoo. Priceless.
Second fight in the Valley of the End: I felt like there was something wrong with this fight, but I couldn't put my finger on it. And you nailed it. There is no passion in it. I was hoping for more taijutsu and less kurama/susanoo, but maybe that just wishful thinking on my part. After all the heartache Sasuke has caused Naruto all I wanted to see was Sasuke get punched around for a little. Ok not very mature of me, but oh well. Maybe this is a measure of how far Naruto has come from part 1. He is definitely less emotional than he used to be. I miss that Naruto. I was hoping for a really emotional all out brawl between them.
shocking ending? That is probably just another note put in by the editor to hype the next chapter

It would be really cool if Naruto refuses to fight, and so far it seems that at least he refuses to attack. I miss Sasuke's emotions more than Naruto's emotions. He pretends that killing Naruto would be absolutely rational, and this cannot be.
"It would be really cool if Naruto refuses to fight"
I agree, especially since Naruto is fighting defensively. This "fight" may already be over since they are in the "talking zone".
As for Sasuke, he has been talking about killing Naruto forever now, and yet he hasn't. That says a lot. Clearly his heart isn't in it. I'm reminded of what Itachi talked to Kabuto about - acknowledging your true self. Seems like Sasuke didn't really pay attention or learn anything from that conversation. And yet this is what I think Sasuke must do too.
One reason might be that Naruto's defense is good enough to prevent Sasuke from murdering him. Yet you might be right, and maybe in the next chapter there will be a scene when it becomes clear that Sasuke will not kill Naruto even if he has the chance to do so (just as he was not able to kill Naruto during their first fight at the valley of the end or when they met around chapter 315.
I am quite proud too. Last winter I felt frustrated and asked the rest of the team whether we would stop, but then we decided that we would continue until the manga's end (it was quite obvious then that the story would not last for much longer.) So we have done chapter reviews since chapter 367, I think, almost half of the chapters that exist, and we have done this for quite a couple of years. I feel a bit weird, but also, it's good, because in the meantime my life has changed and I am more busy in real life now.
Concerning the flashbacks I mostly felt frustrated because there's almost nothing new, and this feels like cheating. Also, there's moments I miss (maybe we will get them in the next chapter): Sasuke sharing his food with Naruto, Sasuke saving Naruto during their fight against Haku. The other problem is the one subieko talks about: there's not much ordinary shared activity between the two of them, like hanging out or going to the cinema. A moment of eye contact at the lake is not much - most of all if nothing follows. It's like when you fall in love - sometimes you first look, and then, after a while, you find the courage to talk to each other and then more may happen. But if you are very shy, then one exchange of looks may be everything you get: you look at the person you fancy, you believe that this one exchange of looks and maybe even of smiles means that you are destined for each other, and then you wonder why it did not mean the same for the other person. So maybe feeling that the other one mirrored their
