OMG ranting like a raving ranter

Okay, let me start off by saying that this is a triggery subject. If you cannot, do not or are disturbed by the rape or underage sex, don't read it. I'd put this in a nicer way but I'm too damn angry to think of one right now.

There's been an incident in the news here recently )

That poor girl. I'm sure she thought she was in love in the first instance, but that's no excuse for the pressure from the (so much older, ick) guy. I really, really hope he gets what he deserves. (The other boys, too, but that first one is the root and cause of the horribleness.)

I...yeah. *sighs* It's adults like this that are a huge chunk of the problem. I substitute teach, often at middle high schools, which means 11-18 which is the age you're talking about, and I can't tell you how often I have to give a version of the "if she says stop/don't, then you stop or do not do it. It's part of no means no." its' almost every single time I teach. Without exception. And these boys are shocked. So. Yeah. I feel for that girl but more of a long-term problem is that I REALLY think adults like that is are huge part of the problem because the shocked reaction I get from boys when I tell them "Hey, respect her boundaries." doesn't come from nowhere. They're the ones who need to be teaching your young men how to treat people and clearly, as this situation proves, they're failing. JFC.

Dude. I could not have kept myself from snapping that asshats head right off. OMFG.

I shall join you in your incoherent rage, because NO NO NO FUCKING NO.

Jayzus.

I hope she gets justice. I hope the community rallies behind her instead of tearing her apart. I hope those boys suffer.

What an awful situation, made worse by people's attitudes about it. May I ask, is your colleague male or female? I would think a woman would be more sympathetic to the girl's plight; therefore, I'm curious.
