I am annoyed by the smell of cigarettes more than anything. The way it makes me feel is less immediate because it takes a day before I notice how I feel like 10 pounds of ass in a 5 pound bag. Pipe smoke is more pleasant, but still irksome to me. Better though. Cigars... UGH!
While it may smell better, and I do like the smell, I still don't like the smoke. Hell I like the smell of hydraulic fluid but I don't keep a jar of it around to sniff, nor do I suggest inhailing hydraulic fluid fumes.
I am a supporter of the smoking ban and it's not just because it smells. At least in my case, I have a sinus condition that is aggrivated by second hand smoke and sometimes will cause me to have severe difficulty breathing. I can sometiems tolerate smoking without having an attack, but sometimes I can't.
Pollution, harsh chemicals in cleaners and perfume have the same affect. I wish there could be a perfume ban but that would never fly. Essential oils don't cause the reaction, it's perfumes with a chemical based fragrance. I received treatment for my condition at National Jewish Hospital and through my association with NJH, I found that air pollution, second hand smoke, perfumes and chemicals can trigger asthma attacks and other reactions in people who have upper respiratory conditions.
From my perspective, it's not about preferences, it's about my current health.
Tough room, my boy. Surly crowd this evening, yes siree.
But you know, they've invited the State to sit a spell in their parlor. They'll be less enthused when that very same State takes up permanent residence.

Patience is all that is necessary.
