the BEST teacher

Hey, Lovely Lady!

How could my day end any better than with a letter from one of the dearest young people in my life! 'Tis always a "day maker" to hear from my radiant scholar and dedicated epistemophile.

Indeed, I understand how stress can accumulate at "finals time." Quite coincidentally, 27 years ago today (half my life ago!), I was in the middle of my three-day Master's comprehensive finals. I wrote for three consecutive days (Nov. 28-30, 1977) for a total of 45 pages (all-essay exam, of course) in philosophy.  I had studied from early September through the eve of November 27th (day and night) for that "academic workout."  What a relief and joy when my Master's committee chairman called me in mid-December with the great news: "Congratulations! You passed* all your finals."

*They give no 'grades' on such an exam; the three professors on my committee read the entire essay independently of one another and simply declared "Pass" or "Fail."  It is a tense time, awaiting their collective decision, so the call that night was so sweet! (One of them was even a Harvard Ph.D.)

You, my dear, will be successful in all you do because you are an Eastham scholar all the way. Prouder of you I could never be! My best to you as you move through your exams, as well as thereafter. Just remember that Eastham is with you and behind you all the way, for whatever that might be worth to you.

All else is fine with my wife (thank you for asking) and me. I am moving through my 26th year of teaching with some more to go, though just how many, I am not certain, yet.

I do keep you in my heart and soul. Please take good of yourself. Always am I delighted to hear from you, so feel free to write whenever you wish. I care very much about you.

Remember Who Loves You...

Monsieur Eastham
