I concur re: Harry's Insta-Grief. (Though it's interesting that we'd been expecting it to dominate his emotional state, and Jo made it non-existent ... certainly didn't call that one.) I would have liked Harry to process that a bit more, not just gloss over it -- maybe it'll crop up once again in book seven?
There are two things I now dislike about canon Harry.
ONE being the fact that he suddenly seems to have smartass remarks to almost everything that was said to him *except* things hitting him emotionally. Since when was Harry a big bucket of wit and sarcasm.
TWO the fact that he sucked Ginny's face. And that is deeply overshadowed by his obsession with Draco.
xx
p.s- I was looking around for his middle name the other day.. didn't find anything.
Actually loff, I remember us covering down at the ship that most HP fans overlook the fact that Harry is indeed rather sarcastic and cynic during a lot of points throughout the series. *is too lazy to look for examples* Loff upon thee anyway.
Really? Harry had me smiling and sometimes even laughing in HBP before I thought 'Hey, what happened to old!Harry..." more times in HBP than all the oter books combined. I think I've only ever found Harry's comebacks, or even sense of humour in general, funny a few times in the past books.
And usually those times involved other people. Though maybe that's just me. I'm not really a major Harry fangirl..
On GnH, ages ago, when we were discussing, like, most frequently made mistakes when writing Harry, one point that came up was "authors give him the wit and sense of humor of a wet log."
Canonically, he is frequently sarcastic -- maybe OMGEMONESS in OOTP overshadowed that, but the smartass was still definitely there. And now that he's stopped speaking in caps, that aspect of his personality can come to light more.
GAH! Totally agree with the "6th years using Petrificus Totalus". I mean, c'mon guys, Snape must've taught you something during class? Small aspects such as these are what have many HP fans screaming, "J.K. DID NOT WRITE THIS FANFIC!"
Agreeing with Callie, I'm really glad at how much Harry's character has matured from OoTP!Harry. He's much more stable, understanding, and patient, and also willing to count on those he loves for strength , while at the end of the last book he thought otherwise. Dumbledore's words regarding the power of love, no matter how corny, have been significant to the entire story since the start!
Blackcest was a bit appealing actually, but I had known from the start her Patronus had become a werewolf (not just because of the spoilers) but because that's what all the clues seemed to point at.
Stop using Ginny; she is just a cover for your true desires to have darkside buttsecks with Tom, Severus, and Draco.*dies laughing* *endless amount of shags just for that
( ... )
Am I the only one who didn't see all the Bill/Ginny flying around?! I mean, half the time Ginny seemed to be paying more attention to Bill than Harry, what with the whole, "GET AWAY FROM MY BROTHER WENCH!"
OMG WAZLIBCEST.
LOVE IT.
This book has more __cest than all the others, really. Hmm. Why? Intriuging.
