So after a full month with no internet here at the lake, we're finally up and running and WOAH it's supa fast!!! Kaleb's registered for kindergarten and starts a week from tomorrow. I'm both nervous and excited for him, positively speaking, but I know putting him on that bus next Wednesday is gonna put me in internal freakout mode. All smiles, sure ( Read more... )

K starts here next Wednesday, too.

How far do you let him roam? I am on the fence about this one; his "best friend" is a 7yo next door who has a little more freedom than him. I'd like to give him more, but I want it to go to HIM, and not just because he is with an older kid (who, quite frankly, I trust less than my son.) I have been thinking of the 2-way radio for a while; my parents used to do that with my brother. Does K ride a bike? How far do you let him ride? How about crossing the street? All this is shit I was doing by Alejandro's age, but combo "times have changed" + different neighborhood + he has younger siblings...I just am so overwhelmed by it.

I don't know about a bug-preventing thing, but if you can believe it, I have this little bottle of liquid topical benadryl that takes the swell away & the itching almost immediately. I'm not in love with benadryl in general, but since I never give it to them orally I figure whatever. I can't find the stuff on their website, though.

Out neighborhood is relatively small, only three parallel streets (ours is the street in the middle of the three) with two streets running perpendicular to those. The only entrances in and out are on the streets running parallel to our own and both of those entrances run dead on the opposite ends. Think of it like a lower case "n" with a line down the middle (our street).

Or wait, this is easierSo, we live on Terrence. I let him roam Terrence, Rose, and Blanche. Regardless of it being a kid packed neighborhood where everybody knows each other and watches out for the kidlets, I want him off the entrances into the neighborhood. They just seem so far away and with all the yards being fenced, I have no immediate or quick access to North Lakeshore or Brady ( ... )
