Grrrr

Dec 28, 2007 11:01

Went out to my car this morning to find the front passenger-side window punched in.

They'd obviously been through the glove compartment, but all my stuff was still there.  They didn't take the ($80) iPod adapter, they didn't take the ($200) GPS unit.  They did, however, take the (less than $10) GPS holder that was attached to the windshield.  ?!?!

Oh, it's not officially Somerville until you get the one-fingered salute from the police department when you file the police report. Car break-ins aren't the kind of crimes they handle.

Not sure I should even bother with the police report, since nothing of value was stolen, and the insurance company is going to cover the window...

If your insurance company will cover without the police report, than yeah, I probably wouldn't bother. Mine would not.

Almost all insurance includes glass coverage with no need to go through hoops. Same policy applies if you get a crack in your windshield from a rock, or even if your windshield has so many minor abrasions that vision is impaired.

See, that's just weird. I don't understand what people are looking for if they leave a GPS. Chargers et al, I can sort of see that; they may think they're hard to sell without the item they charge or something. Maybe they worry high-end GPSes have some sort of tracking thing in them? I wouldn't be surprised because, y'know, it is a GPS. I wonder if they would have taken your iPod.

They may actually have been trying to get the GPS but didn't notice the unusually-placed compartment I've been keeping it in. That, or they were looking for the iPod, which wasn't there.

Who's stupid enough to keep their iPod in their glove compartment for extended periods of time?

Not me, although that's largely because I like having my iPod on the T. Apparently I actually _am_ lazy enough to leave the GPS in the car, although I think I'm going to be reevaluating that decision.

I never had any such problems when I was living in Somerville. Then again, I didn't have a car at the time.

My mom used to leave her car unlocked.

Until some hooligans stole the owners manual and the knobs of the radio.
