Zion

It's always better on Holiday. Today was another successful day of photography in Utah. Bryce Canyon was amazing yet again this morning, with absolutely fantastic colors on the "hoodoos," as the weird formations are called. Didn't spend too much time there because I wanted to get to Zion and still have some time left to do my hikes.

I'm really sorry to hear about your camera :(. It made me reflexively stroke mine. I might get a wet bag for mine this summer, actually. Ed and I are going to go shopping for hiking boots for him and I may see camera accessories that I really want... though I suppose I should wait until I get home and just go to huge REI. Anyway! Where are you going next... I can't remember? You are heading back for Ellingwood right? What time of the morning do you have to leave to get started up that... I can't wait to see those pictures either! Sorry I didn't check your lj earlier -- things were really busy this weekend -- but I gave my speech for being president and it seemed to go all right and I for the final question from the audience I was asked to tell a joke -- so I told the dead baby/bowling ball/pitchfork one which I'm pretty sure I learned off of you (or was it Phil Keck?). Ok will be checking back repeatedly!!!!!

Great pics! We camped at Zion on our way to Yosemite a few years ago (yeah, not exactly the direct route) and it really is a lovely park. The coolest thing (besides the rock formations) were the Jerusalem crickets ... big, freaky looking bugs! We didn't try the Narrows, since we were strapped for time and lacked equipment to stay dry.

We did Bryce in the off-season, stayed in a tipi and froze our butts off when it snowed. But there weren't many people around on the trails!

Have you ever gone to Goblin Valley? It was featured in "Galaxy Quest" as an alien planet. Long drive into the middle of nowhere, but you can (legally) climb on the rock formations and play all over the place.
