I called the bank right when I noticed it (good thing I'm very anal about my finacial transactions). All the charges where made yesterday and today, when I didn't use by card ( Read more... )

ooooh damn! I think if the bank put your account on hold they might also restore the balance to what it was before this happened. I hope they do that.

I know the feeling, a few years ago a "friend" (note the quotation marks there) persuaded me to use my credit card to buy a dvd player he wanted. He promised to pay me back with his next paycheck, which he did. Then a few weeks later I find almost a thousand dollars of charges on my account I did not make. I got those charges reversed. I also did a bit of detective work, using the vendors listed on my credit card statement. I called one of them and asked whose signature was on the credit card slip...they couldn't pronounce the name but I immediately recognized that it was my "friend", who has a unique and very long Russian surname. Apparently this "friend" was working with the salesperson who handled our dvd purchase. I think that salesperson gave my "friend" my credit card number. I deleted that "friend" from my life.

Yeah, they told me they would restore the fraudulent amounts back to my account, which is good.. Though I am kind of paranoid about it.

as for your "friend", what a FUCKING IDIOT!!! I'm glad to hear you deleted the friendship. Did you plain any sort of revenge for him?

I did consider revenge, but honestly I was afraid of him. He probably knows more dirty tricks and is more ruthless about employing them than I. I was lucky though, because karma appears poised to do more to him than I ever could. He lives his life at such a frenetic and risky pace it is certain that something terrible will happen to him, something more ingenious than I could come up with. Although I now live over 200 miles from him I am sure by now something has happened to even the score.

Actually, my best hope is that after years of living like that he would learn a new strategy for living, one based on honesty and love rather than deceit.

btw I'm glad the bank will restore your account. The paranoia sucks though...until you figure out who did it and how they did it. I presume you'll have a new P.I.N. or a whole new account number. Good luck.
