what I've been reading

I devoured How Children Learn Language by William O'Grady over the weekend. It's not written for linguists and doesn't use terminology or anything. I think it's mostly for parents wanting to record and understand how their children learn to speak and that makes the book great because it is light and entertaining.

I also finished Ten Little Indians ( Read more... )

If you want something highly technical (NOT a light read at all) and behaviorist/non-Chomskian on language acquisition, I recommend Eve Clarke. We used her textbook in my language acquisition class and there was lots of good stuff (and plenty of studies cited if you're into that). Amazon has it on kindle.

I haven't read all that much linguistic stuff but if the class turns out to be really interesting, I might check out the book. I don't have a kindle and am horrible at reading on screens, but several versions of the book available at the university's library, so I might look into it. Thanks for the recommendation!
