I got a copy of my letter of admission from Yale yesterday via email (they're sending me the original via mail), so that whole thing is finally over. I need to figure out what the next step is. I'm guessing I need to apply for a visa but I've still got a little bit of time. I'll be in New Haven starting at some point in August. Classes start on

I am ! Only for a year though. I got a scholarship that covers my tuition and I'll enroll at the African American Studies Department and write my master's thesis while there.

You should definitely still get your visa even if your only going to Yale for a year. :)

I'm definitely getting one. I don't think Immigration will let me into the US otherwise and it's one of the requirements for enrollment. The question right now is just what I'm still missing to apply for a visa / when the right timeframe to do so is.

I think it would be good to figure out quickly what your missing to apply for the visa and get the visa quickly.

I need to wait on more info from Yale. I can't apply for a student visa without them sending me the letter of admission first and according to them, there's several steps me and them have to do before I go to the embassy, so it'll be two weeks at least. But you're right, I'm not going to delay this till the last possible moment.

Thanks! I need to wait for the letter of admission to be sent to me. Right now all I have is a PDF. And I need to sit down and figure out what documents I need for the visa. Not looking forward to that.

I love the east coast - my dad was from Massachusetts and we'd go back every summer to visit his family and go to the beach and stuff. You'll be *so close* to so many amazing things. :)

Plus, of course, the university and town itself.... I hope you enjoy it!
