Adam show in Sainte-Agathe!

Aug 01, 2011 04:06

Holy crap, where do I even begin with this recap?

So, I started off at 10am on Thursday morning... Drove from my place to Sara's, then waited for her to be ready. We left for the airport around 4:15 and got there at about 6:20. We actually made pretty good time considering the insane traffic we faced getting into Montreal (fucking construction). I was kind of worried about making Melissa and Tammy wait for us, but Melissa's flight was delayed quite a bit and she only landed around 5:30-ish (I believe). Poor Tammy got the short end of the stick, though, since she ended up landing in Montreal two hours EARLIER than she'd planned. Anyway, Sara and I had a quick dinner when we got to the airport, and Tammy and Melissa came to find us after they were done eating their own dinner.

The drive up to Sainte-Adele (where our hotel was) was relatively smooth and absolutely beautiful. I want to go back to that area some day just for a short vacation... The scenery is positively gorgeous. We got to our hotel probably around 8-ish, and started settling in. The AC in our room wasn't working, however, so we called someone to come fix it. It didn't work, though, and we ended up switching rooms later that night.

Apparently the emblem of the hotel was a ~cock and we were terribly amused by that. Seriously, there were roosters everywhere and we thought it was fucking hilarious. Here's a pic of the hotel's front door:

Anyway, around 9-something, Tammy, Melissa and I headed up to Sainte-Agathe to get our numbers (we had to get numbers for the concert line-up the following day; they didn't want people camping out at the venue to get good spots). We parked near where the road was blocked off and started walking towards where we heard music coming from. It was quite a long walk down a dark, relatively deserted residential street, but finally we found the "box office." We got there just in time, as they were about to close down for the night. We got our numbers and headed back to the car. There were about 250 people ahead of us in the numbering, but the organizers were expecting a good 8,000 people at the show so that meant we were guaranteed a good spot.

When we got back to the hotel, we switched rooms and settled in there. We sort of hung out for a bit and then went to bed. The next morning, we got up relatively early because we wanted to have breakfast in the hotel dining room. The view from there was pretty amazing; I wish I'd taken a picture. After breakfast, we went back to the room and started getting ready for the show. This was me:

I think my shoes were really cute lol. I saw them months ago and was like "yup, those are what I'm wearing to the Sainte-Agathe show." Anyway, we headed into Sainte-Agathe around 2-ish, I suppose, and when we got there, we looked around for something to eat. We bumped into some people... two of whom Sara and I stood next to at the Balloon Festival last year. It was kind of hilarious. Anyway, they told us about this cute little cafe down the street, so we went there for our late lunch. The cafe had this big artificial tree in it haha:

While we were there, we bumped into more fandom people, and Melissa and Tammy chatted with them while Sara and I ordered our food. I think Melissa and Tammy weren't too impressed with their food, but Sara and I really loved ours haha. I got myself a caesar chicken sandwich and a latte... I seem to be in need of a latte on a fairly regular basis.

At about 4:15 we decided to start heading towards the venue. They'd told us to get there at 5PM - NOT 4:30, NOT 5:30, 5PM, but we figured it'd take us a while to get there and we probably wouldn't be TOO early. Once we got there, we had to wait around for a good 25 minutes before they started calling the numbers, so we sat on the sidewalk. In that time, we heard Adam and band soundchecking FYE, DTRH, Strut, Aftermath and SFW. It was pretty damn awesome.

We really were within the first 300-ish people to get into the venue... We stood in line for about an hour before being let in, then we found a pretty good spot. There was this set of barricades right at centre stage that ran perpendicular to the stage, allowing for venue security and the press to move freely (the press photogs wouldn't have had a good view in front of the main barricade, as the stage was really high and that barricade was only a few feet from the stage). Our view of the stage:

As you can see, we were relatively close. We could have gotten closer than we did, but because of the high stage, we were perfectly content where we were. Sara and I:

The wait before the show started was a good 3 hours, and overall, it wasn't so bad. Of course, there were some irritations... a couple of girls totally butting in front of us and being stupid... but really I was too excited to get worked up about it. My back and feet started to hurt towards the end, but really, it was nothing compared to the pain I experienced during the 8-hour wait at the balloon festival.

Adam got on around 9:25 and started with FYE. He sounded amazing, as usual. Tommy was singing along for a lot of it, which was totally adorable. They both looked reeeeally good, too. DTRH was the second song... It was nice to finally hear Adam do the full version. I loved the tour medley, but DTRH is my #1 favourite of Adam's songs, so I was SO glad to finally hear it live in its entirety. There were also a couple nice ~moments in DTRH... which I will have to watch videos of because I think I was a bit too overwhelmed to remember exactly what happened when. I do know that they had several cute ~moments throughout the show, and I kept seeing them having quick little chats upstage between songs. Basically they were both having an awesome time, and their chemistry was awesome as usual.

I randomly found myself overwhelmed with emotion again during Aftermath... I bawled the first time I heard it live, then the next two times I was perfectly fine... but I guess since it'd been so long and since SO much has happened this past year... I couldn't help but get emotional.

TJ was very into the show, which was awesome. I mean, he usually is, but I remember the first time I saw him perform, he was sick... the second, he'd just lost his father, and the third was only a week and a half after the second, so... he was a little less enthusiastic than he has been at other times. So basically it was really nice to see him so obviously thrilled. He kept singing along to most of the songs, throwing up his arms, inviting us to cheer, whipping his hair like crazy... So awesome.

There was this fucking hilarious moment with a bug. Adam was in the middle of talking, and this weird bug was just hovering around his head... obviously it was really big because we could all see it and it caught his attention. He was like "whoa, what's that? We don't have those in LA... It must be a fairy! Well, we have THOSE in LA... but not that kind of fairy." We were all fucking cracking up.

Anyway, after that, Adam introduced the band. He introduced Tommy last... and of course we all went nuts for him. And then, oh my fucking god, Adam scolded us for writing fanfic about Tommy. Lol I wanted to bash my head repeatedly on the barricade. Adam, don't you know you're supposed to pretend you don't know we read/write fic about you guys, and we're supposed to pretend we don't do it? That's how it works!!! Anyway, it was fairly obvious he was joking... I think he wanted to embarrass Tommy a little bit haha.

After that, Adam premiered a new song, Outlaws of Love. It was slow, melodic, just him and Monte. It was really good and he sounded phenomenal on it. I'm pretty flattered that he chose to give us the world premiere of it. And when Adam was done, he went off while the band came back on and played an interlude... AND TOMMY CAME ON IN BARE ARMS. UNF EXPOSED TATTOOS. Seriously, this was the first time he's EVER performed with Adam without long sleeves... I just about died. Then there was this moment during Fever where Adam decided to sing to the Duke LOL. It was hilarious. Also a bit unf because I do enjoy seeing Adam grabbing Tommy by the arm...

During Whole Lotta Love, which was the last official song of the show, it started to rain. At first it was just light, but then came the fucking torrential downpour. Adam sang something about the rain gods signaling the end of the show haha. We got absolutely drenched, but I thought it was pretty awesome because that's how an outdoor rock concert should be. You SHOULD come out of it looking like you've just been beaten and spent the night in a ditch. Anyway, Adam came back for two more songs after that... while the rain continued to pour down. He did WWFM and then he finished with Purple Haze.

When it was all over, we made our way back to the car, talking about how amazing the show was, and how it was worth everything we went through for it. It was still raining as we walked back, and it was a good 15-20 minute walk... I was fucking FREEZING by the time we got to the car... There had been some talk of going out after the show, but all we wanted to do was get back to the hotel, shower, and change into warm dry clothes. And that was exactly what we did. Sara and I looking like drowned rats after the show:

http://twitpic.com/5z0095

We were starving by that point, so we decided to order pizza... which was way more complicated than it needed to be. Anyway, when we finally got our pizza at like 2am... it was not cut. So:

http://twitpic.com/5y2npy

Sara ripped it apart with her hands (after washing them) LOL! I'm not sure when we all finally went to bed, but I didn't sleep much that night. Too wound up.

My tweets from the show day, if anyone wants to read them all:

(read from bottom to top)

Anyway, the next day, we checked out at 11am and made our way back to the airport. Along the way, we stopped at Tim Horton's for breakfast and had a nice chat while we ate. We got Tammy to the airport in plenty of time for her flight. Then we went to drop Sara off at her place, and Melissa and I drove back into Montreal for the NOH8 shoot. I parked the car in a random garage near the W hotel, then we went to check it out... Nothing was set up yet, so we wandered off in search of some food. We went to McDonalds, then went back to the hotel. By that time, they were all set up, and luckily enough, Melissa and I were only the 3rd and 4th people to sign up.

After doing that, we put on our makeup, then went to have our NOH8 tattoos put on. Me with mine on:

http://twitpic.com/5z632f

The shoot started pretty much on time. I was totally nervous about it (I was shaking when I got in front of the camera haha), but Adam Bouska was SO sweet and SO good at what he does. It seemed he could pick out right away the things people wanted to emphasize about themselves, and then he made sure to play those features up. Like, he made sure my nails were visible (I had them all done with black Shatter on top of silver polish), he pushed my hair out of the way to show off one of my earrings, and then he posed me in a way so that the charm on my necklace was visible.

Anyway, since we were 3rd and 4th in line, we were done by 6:15 (the shoot started at 6pm haha), and we were really relieved because Melissa needed to be back at the airport by 7:30 and we had no idea at this point how far the airport was from the shoot... Anyway, when we got back to the garage... we realized the building we needed to access it through was closed. Which didn't make any sense because the garage was still open for cars to park in it... so we walked around for a good 20 minutes trying to find a way into the building. FINALLY we found like the ONE unlocked door to the entire building and got back to the car. I got Melissa to the airport by around 7:15 then made my way back home.

Holy crap, it was a fucking amazing weekend and I miss my ladies already! I wish I could've actually spent time with a bunch of other people who were at the show, but one day (especially one so full as that one was) just isn't enough time! Hopefully we can make it happen on some other occasion. Anyway, I think it's about time for me to go to bed. <3
