I quit when I felt myself getting sick(as in REAL sick, flu sick), because I really don't feel like smoking when I'm that sick. I start feeling better after a couple days, and at that point you are pretty much clear from the physical addiction of nicotine. I guess I kind of cheated, waiting until I got sick, but it really helped get through the most difficult part.
After that, it just took an iron sense of self discipline and a lot of bar straws. I'm not kidding. A LOT of bar straws were chewed to death in my quest to quit smoking.
I think the real trick is that you just have to want to quit. If you are serious about stopping, you won't give in to an urge every once in a while, and you'll do it. I know you can!
