So, it's Friday 18th, meaning there's only one week to go. In fact, in seven days, polling will be in full swing and hopefully a huge percentage of those eligible to vote (Irish & UK Citizens resident in the Republic) will have voted ( Read more... )

You may have seen me mention on twitter that I just had a FG canvasser at the door shouting 'we'll be in power this time next week' as a reason to vote for the local FG TD. I don't know whether FG have an electioneering handbook, but I doubt that shouting, intimidation and brow-beating are in there (unless they are, in which case I would worry that all the jokes about jackboots are actually true). I've never seen such unbelievable arrogance from a canvasser, which makes me very worried what might happen if they *do* end up in power, without any brakes.

I did indeed. Very depressing. Also, someone should tell said person that nobody new will be in power until March 9th at the earliest...

Meself, I rather liked the interview I saw on youtube with a man who's a self-proclaimed anarchist. He maintains he's voting for FF because they have nearly destroyed governance in this country and figures if they get in again they'll finish the job and a new government and new constitution will rise from the ashes.
