I'm a huge dork and I downloaded the looong mp3 soundtrack that the City of Vancouver will be playing during the fireworks tonight. It's awfully hard to be patriotic these days. At least in the 'socially acceptable' ways, which involve singing the anthem loudly, Supporting Our Troops with Yellow Car Magnets, and accusing dissenters of being Un-American.

I haven't celebrated Independence Day for years now. I have my patriotic holiday on July 1st. All the 4th was good for was getting me time and a half at work there for awhile.

I swear to god, NOTHING on this planet makes me want to burn my passport and birth certificate and declare citizenship of Canada/Russia/Iran/France/WHATEVER faster than that fucking 'Proud to be an American' song. I usually plug my ears and start humming Oh Canada (the only other anthem I know) to avoid hitting something.
