One of my favorite sitcoms, Third Rock from the Sun, actually had an episode in which Sally discovers cosmetics, and theorizes that makeup keeps your self-esteem from evaporating out through your facial skin.

But really, the *dosage* of the stuff per application is negligible. That's exactly why they're calling it "safe" at concentrations of 0.5% I'd say you put on maybe 2 mLs, 5 if you're slathering it on. So that makes .01 to .025 mLs per application, and subcutaneous absorption is never as complete as ingesting it.

However, I am convinced that the reason why white women go to tanning booths until their skin is leathery and spotted is the mood lift from the UVB -> Vitamin D process.

I'm pretty sure the caked-on foundation is way more than 2mls, probably more like 10 mls, for a dosage of about .1 to .2 mls. Since 1 mls ingested is easily noticeable, I'd guess that .1 mls is probably enough to produce a noticeable positive association, especially if done on a regular basis.

Bah; I will never be woman enough...I abhor lotions, makeup, etc. coming anywhere near my skin.
