Hand, foot and mouth disease in early pregnancy is one of the most benign childhood illnesses you can catch in pregnancy.

It's not very comfortable, though. Ibuprofen or aceteminophen (never aspirin) may help a bit, and soft foods will be easier to eat.

You are also probably immune, and hopefully won't have to deal with it again yourself. Hope your little one feels better soon.

Ugh, my 2yo caught this last year and she was miserable. Thankfully a nurse friend recommended some things that helped, in addition to pain relievers. Gentian violet on the mouth sores, goats milk yogurt, and real grape juice w no sugar added. Avoid cow dairy but the goats milk yogurt has enzymes or something that are helpful. Same with the grape juice. We had a couple of really miserable days but then things got better quickly.

a mix of 1/2 and 1/2 of Benadryl and maloxx can be used to coat the inside of the mouth - some feel that it helps. Xylocaine can be added into the mix if it is really painful. advil and/or tylenol can also help if there is a fever.
chances are that you already had it.
step away from the google - it is scary.

Don't you dare take anything but Tylenol when you are pregnant dear! Unless it is something prescribed by a doctor that knows you are pregnant. I used to work at a daycare and we had to put a warning up on the door when a child came down with HFM so that pregnant women would know to stay away. It is a virus, so I'd check with your own mother if it is possible to see if you have had it before. That's probably why your midwife is not too worried. She is also probably not worried because you probably would have it by now if you were going to have it. But to be on the safe side down lick your daughter or anything that would be 'extreme' contact. Hugs and smooches always make little ones feel better. But, you need to be safe too. I would check into making some soup with garlic in it for your daughter. Or something salty. These things seem to always dry up sores for me. I have a benign cyst in my throat and every time I come down with strep I gargle salt water and eat lots of soup with garlic. Sometimes I have to break down and go get ( ... )
