Hi all. I’m brand new to the community, but not totally new to natural family living. My husband and I have been married for just over 2 years, and we have a gorgeous 10 month old little girl named haylie Elizabeth. She’s pretty much the light of my life, and she’s got her Daddy wrapped around her little finger in a major way. We cloth diaper, ( Read more... )

We sometimes put essential oils into our cold humidifier, but our kids are 4 and 6 and no longer sleep with us. What I do with lavender to relax is wet a washcloth with warm-to-hot water (I like it hotter) and then shake a few drops of lavender oil directly onto the cloth, which I use to wash my face and for a little aromatherapy. I do this for my kids, too, and they love it. And we use chamomile and lavender in their (any my) baths as well.

You could also make linen spray - water, alcohol and essential oils. It's nice to spritz on sheets and pillows.
Congrats on your daughter! Mine is also 10 months old :)

I like moonstrucky's suggestion, the linen spray. I use a lavender spray for my own pillowcases and love it.

It's not an essential oil, but... we've had great luck here with Calm's Forte made by Hyland's for sleep. I had the worst time relaxing my brain and going to sleep even though I was exhausted with a baby. Calm's Forte didn't make me sleepy, but it somehow let me relax so that I could sleep, if that makes sense. I was still perfectly alert for cosleeping and if my baby woke up and needed night care, as it doesn't make you drowsy at all. It's also safe for breastfeeding.

I used to love lavender on my pillow, but I stopped when my son was born because my husband showed me some studies about how lavender can be harmful and potentially cancer causing for boys.

Good luck, and hope you have some good sleep soon.
