I have one of my history electives (Women in European History) as a tutorial class, and I met today with the prof (who is also my advisor) to discuss the class.  The first words out of his mouth?  "Okay, so, I'm going to use this class to prepare you for grad school ( Read more... )

I need to ask, because it's been forever confusing me: what is "grad school"? I don't get the American system.

It's post-graduate education... you get a Master's Degree and then your Doctorate (Ph.D.). I think that the German equivalents would be Magister and... Doktorarbeit? or something like that.

I don't know the German university system much at all.

Okay, I see. And yes, it used to be Magister, but now we have the Ba/MA system too.
