Very thought provoking, Mel. If you got this on email, can you email it to me? I want to forward it to some of my friends. If not, would there be way you could still email it to me in its original form? :)

I think it's got merit and brings up some interesting points... like Dr Spock's son committing suicide. I'm not sure we can blame America's rejection of God for 9/11 though. God does not guarantee us long wealthy healthy lives. Our assurance is that we have a home at the end of it.

And regarding gay ministers - I'd say we should make a distinction between people with homosexual temptations, and those who actually give in to those urges and live by them. Anyone could have any temptation, including sexual sin. What matters is how they conduct themselves. I think a gay man could be a preacher, but to do so he would have to forswear homosexual relationships.

right, that's a good point about distinguishing between those with the temptations, and those who actually ACT on them. We ALL sin, and we all struggle with temptations. And we all act on those temptations at times in our lives. So we would be hypocrites to look down on or judge harshly those struggling with the thougths. We can be there for them and encourage them to trust God to help fight such thoughts, and if they succumb, be there to help them work through it. But I know there's some Methodist churches who have openly gay ministers and saying "that's ok" and I don't think that's right. And certainly not be proud of it! That makes me mad, going back to the issue of whether homesexuality is ok or not in the BIble. To me it's pretty obvious it is NOT ok. And it's sad when there are liberal churches today who try and twist the BIble and say that there is nothing that out right says it's a sin.
