Overall I've loved the newer videos. "Famous Last Words" has been my favorite of theirs so far. I will say that "I Don't Love You" isn't the best. I do think Gerard tried a bit too hard with his facial expressions. I know he was trying to get the mood of the song across, but it just didn't work.
Need I remind you...He made faces in Helena too...quite a lot of them.
What kind of made me sad was that I'm pretty sure the past few videos could have been amazing, but they're just not doing it. What I liked about "I'm Not Okay" and "Helena" was that they focused on getting a story across. They were about the song and what lay behind them, about everything surrounding the music. The new videos are more about emotion. And not even in a good way. Instead of focusing on the band and the way everything fit together, it's all about the noise and Gerard.
I know he made faces in Helena, but they almost seemed like they fit. The camera was on him just long enough for him to get an image across, then it moved to someone else, who did the same thing. They blended into the noise. I loved it.
Hmmm...I think it's mostly a matter of personal opinion here. I do, however, believe that Famous Last Words did revolve around the music. I mean it was just the band playing their hearts out, and when it comes down to it isn't that what music is about? expressing emotion?
And you have to admit. It's hard not to pay attention to Gerard either way.
The black and white was a really good idea, I admit. Everything LOOKED awesome in it, it was the performance I didn't like. As much as I still want to be Gerard Way when I grow up, he's becoming more of a guilty pleasure than he ever was.
