Oh, the stuff of legend!
I ship any!Doctor/Rose because I don’t care what face he wears. I don't care if he’s Nine, Ten, TenToo or Eleven. They’re the same person, they have the same feelings, thoughts and same memories. Saying this, I have to talk about my issues with Eleven and Rose fanfiction.
a) I think it’s OOC if the author writes that TenToo and Rose didn’t work out because they are too different or because he’s not the Doctor. TenToo has the same memories and feelings the Doctor has and it's canon. You can't contest the canon. I believe the memories and feelings make you the person you’re, not your biology. Unfortunately, Tentoo got just one heart, but he isn’t less Doctor because he got another body without one heart. Okay, you can’t like TenToo/Rose, but in my opinion if you can’t believe TenToo and Rose worked out, you don't believe in Doctor/Rose. Also, Russell (or it was Julie?) said they worked as a couple. I think TenToo getting killed is always an opition and more believable. We’re talking about the Doctor here.
b) If Eleven meets Rose and she recognizes him, I can’t see the Doctor being cold with her if the reunion doesn’t have a romantic approaching. I hate when I see this in fic because it’s not Doctor-ish. I mean, think about the reunion between Ten and Sarah Jane after 30 years for her, five regenerations for the Doctor and he was still happy to see her. He still loves Sarah Jane dearly (not the same kinda love he has for Rose) after all their time apart, do you really believe he stopped to feel the way he felt for Rose who was with him less than 6 years before? Six years is a long time for humans, but he’s a Time Lord who lived for 9 centuries. Six years are nothing for him. Hell, during two years he moped about Rose! Sorry, I can’t see Eleven being cold/indifferent with her if he saw Rose again. I think Eleven is sweet in a way Ten and Nine weren’t, so he’d treat her just like he did with Amy. He’d hug her, kiss her forehead and mess with her hair because it’s the kind of things this version of him does. Eleven lived and felt the same things Ten and Nine did, sometimes I feel like people forgot that. He can’t feel the same abrasive love Ten felt for Rose, but it’s still there.
c) Eleven isn’t happy happy. Eleven is resigned. Eleven burned his planet, he lost the love of his life, he lost his best friend and a lot of friends along the way. Eleven is the Doctor. Eleven is the result of everything he lost and loved (he visited everyone before he regenerated, including Rose). Like linacaldas said to me over the phone:
“Eleven is the way he’s because he can’t lose more things, he already lost everything. Now, he can just live on, rebuild his life like Nine did and try to be happy in between”.
He isn’t happier now than he was before (he lives on, like he said to Rose he’d do when she was truly gone), the regeneration didn’t make the pain go away or forget everything he went through a few years ago.
I don’t know if he’ll ever move on, but he’s trying to have a little happiness in his life while he lives.
So I like my fics that doesn’t make TenToo not the Doctor, Eleven not loving Rose or being happy happy. SUE ME!
