I thought I misplaced my comb, and spent the last...ten minutes or so searching my cabin for it. I looked through my wardrobe, scoured the tops of tables and nightstand, even crawled on hands and knees to look under the bed and chairs, but to no avail. Terrible at first, but delicious as more and more was imbibed.

And you are quite welcome! There was something I meant to ask you, but for the life of me I cannot recall what.

I am perfectly sober, Sexby, and happen to recall what it is I meant to ask you this very moment, sir. Would you care for a book whilst you recover?

Angelica....

I'm sure that there is plenty to do. I know I could use an extra pair of hands and I know the others will, too.

Thank you. It is much appreciated, Sveta. There are so many patients in your care now; it was my hope that my offer to assist would not be spurned.

Never. Your hands can check bandages as well as mine. It would be a mistake to turn you away.

Then order me about as you see fit, madam. I will be perfectly happy to do what I can.

Adorable? More foolish or absentminded than adorable, most definitely.

Aye, sir, everyone has their moments of embarrassment. At least mine was amusing.

It's fine. I went by to see her.

How're you holding up?

Good. I would have hated for you to have been left in the dark.

In truth? Poorly. I feel a tremendous amount of guilt that she actually succeeded in finding a means to end her life - if my assumptions about what took place are correct, at any rate.

It's not your fault. Mal's a clever woman; she was going to find a way.

Her cleverness is evident, but I had hoped to prevent this sort of unnecessary torment.

How did you fare during the...shall we say, the armed takeover of the Barge?

There is not much to tell. Unless you mean more than this latest ... misadventure.

There is nothing I need, but thank you.

Nothing more than what occurred, Mal. I know very little about what transpired, save that you died before I could reach you, and you had been with a small party intent on preforming something heroic and foolish.

And the offer stands should you change your mind.

[There's a very long delay before Angelica finally gets her response.]

Snape had made up his mind to attack the goddess. I offered to go with him and provide what little help I could. I knew I could do little beyond act as a distraction. I think he would rather have not had me, but I insisted, and-you must not blame him. My actions were my responsibility.

When the warriors confronted us, I deliberately antagonized them. I knew what would happen. And it did.

I will not give my reasons again. You know them already.

I do not blame him. Your actions are your own, and he did not know your intent.

That is all I wished to know. For now I will leave you be.
